Congressman Tim Burchett is doubling down on one of Washington’s most explosive claims — and he’s doing it on President Trump’s watch in 2025. The Tennessee Republican says U.S. Navy personnel have reported repeated encounters with underwater craft moving at impossible speeds, raising the question of whether alien bases are hidden deep beneath the world’s oceans.
Burchett, who serves on the House Oversight Committee’s expanding USO (unidentified submerged objects) investigation, says military accounts have become too numerous — and too detailed — to dismiss.
“These Are Trained Navy Professionals. They’re Not Making This Up.”
In an interview this week, Burchett told reporters not to underestimate the seriousness of the sightings.
“We’ve got naval personnel telling us they’re tracking objects under the water going hundreds of miles an hour,” Burchett said. “Meanwhile, our own submarines top out at a fraction of that. These aren’t fishermen with binoculars. These are trained observers — some of the best we’ve got.”
According to Burchett, the sightings cluster around five or six deep-water locations around the globe, though their exact coordinates remain classified.
“These encounters raise big questions,” he said. “And one of those questions is whether some kind of advanced base is sitting on the ocean floor — maybe thousands of years old.”
A Long Trail of Reports — From Columbus to the Trump Era
While the Navy’s recent encounters have reignited debate, reports of strange ocean activity go back centuries. Even Christopher Columbus logged mysterious “lights” rising from the sea during his 1492 expedition — an anecdote UFO researchers often cite.
In recent years, authors and analysts have taken the theory further.
Dr. Bill Birnes — a New York Times bestselling writer known for his work on UFOs and American politics — argued last year that he believes extraterrestrials “settled here long before us.”
“They may have built underwater bases to monitor humanity without interfering directly,” Birnes claimed. “If you wanted to observe a civilization quietly, the ocean is the perfect place.”
Burchett says he’s aware of these claims — and while he doesn’t endorse everything in the UFO world, he believes something is being hidden.
“I’m not saying it’s little green men,” Burchett said. “I’m saying the government has information they aren’t sharing, and Americans deserve the truth.”
Whistleblowers Describe “Domed Structures” Beneath the Sea
UFO researcher Dr. Michael Salla says he once interviewed an Army whistleblower who claimed he actually visited an underwater base off the Bahamas.
“He described a domed structure with a pyramid inside,” Salla said in a podcast appearance last month. “He said it wasn’t built by us. It wasn’t built by China. And it sure wasn’t built last century.”
The Pentagon has repeatedly declined to comment on Salla’s claims, but congressional committees under the Trump administration have increased pressure on military officials to declassify USO incidents.
“A Tic Tac Came Out of the Ocean — Then Vanished”
One of the most striking accounts came from Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Alexandro Wiggins, who testified during a September 2023 congressional hearing.
Wiggins said he was aboard the USS Jackson off the coast of Southern California when a “self‑luminous Tic Tac‑shaped object” shot out of the ocean and hovered in front of the ship.
“It joined three others in the air,” he testified. “Then they all disappeared with synchronized acceleration unlike anything we have on Earth. It wasn’t a drone. It wasn’t ours. I know what I saw.”
Burchett says testimonies like Wiggins’ are the reason he won’t back down.
“People can laugh,” he said. “But if our military is encountering something we can’t track, can’t outmaneuver, and can’t explain, that’s a national security issue.”
The Bottom Line
Burchett and other lawmakers say the investigation is far from over. With President Trump pushing for greater transparency, Republicans argue it’s time for full disclosure — wherever the evidence leads.
“This isn’t sci‑fi anymore,” Burchett said. “It’s happening. And the American people need answers.”
