Cory Booker, 58, Marries Younger Partner After Whirlwind D.C. Romance

Cory Booker has officially tied the knot — and the longtime bachelor couldn’t be happier.

The 58-year-old New Jersey senator said “I do” to 38-year-old Alexis Lewis in an intimate Washington, D.C., ceremony that brought together faiths, families, and decades of public service.

The private wedding took place on Saturday, followed by a lively interfaith reception featuring both a rabbi and a pastor — a nod to Booker’s Christian faith and Lewis’ Jewish heritage. The couple was legally married earlier in the week in Newark, the city Booker once led as mayor and still calls home.

“After so many years on my own, I wasn’t sure marriage was in the cards,” Lewis told The New York Times in an email. “But when you meet the right person, everything changes.”

Their romance began in May 2024, when mutual friends set them up on a blind date during one of Lewis’ trips to Washington. What was supposed to be a quick meeting turned into a five-hour dinner — and a second date the next day.

Booker reportedly convinced her to delay her return flight to Los Angeles, calling their second outing “even more magical.”

Within months, the two became inseparable. By late summer 2025, Booker proposed during a beachside getaway, later sharing the engagement news on Instagram with a heartfelt caption: “Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life.”

Lewis brings her own political credentials to the marriage. A former economic policy manager in the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office under Eric Garcetti, she now serves as director of investments at Brasa Capital Management, a major real estate investment firm based in L.A.

Booker, meanwhile, is one of the most recognizable names in modern American politics. After serving as Newark’s 38th mayor from 2006 to 2013, he became New Jersey’s first African-American senator — a post he still holds.

He even launched a bid for the presidency in 2020, ultimately losing the Democratic nomination to Joe Biden. During President Trump’s second term, Booker became known for his fiery opposition speeches — including one that stretched a record 25 hours.

“Early in our relationship, I had this bittersweet moment realizing my dad would never get to meet the woman I’m marrying,” Booker reflected in a statement. “But Alexis is exactly the kind of woman my father would have wanted for me.”

Booker, long known for his single status and dedication to public service, once joked that if he’d been married to Michelle Obama, “I’d be president by now.”

Now, as he embarks on married life with Alexis Lewis, friends say the senator has found balance for the first time in decades.

“He looks happier and more grounded than we’ve ever seen him,” one friend told Politico. “This is a man who’s finally learning to slow down — and love his life as much as his work.”
