Trump then mimed FBI agents digging through Melania’s undergarments, describing how she keeps them “folded perfectly, like artwork,” before adding: “She’s meticulous. That’s the way she was raised. She steams them, for crying out loud!”

Though the crowd laughed, the former president’s message was deadly serious: The Justice Department, he warned, has become a rogue weapon in the hands of a corrupt political class.

The August 2022 raid was part of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents after leaving office in 2021. The unprecedented event saw dozens of armed agents storm the former president’s Palm Beach estate — and allegedly ransack bedrooms belonging to Trump, Melania, and their teenage son Barron.

“They even searched Barron’s room. He’s a kid!” Trump said at the rally. “Melania came home and her closet was in shambles. She said, ‘Who does this?’ It was disgusting.”

At the time, Trump was accused of storing boxes of classified materials in unsecured areas, including a ballroom and bathroom. But Republican lawmakers have repeatedly claimed the charges were politically motivated — especially in contrast to how the DOJ handled President Joe Biden’s own document scandal involving his Delaware garage.

Just hours before Trump’s North Carolina rally, Special Counsel Jack Smith gave private testimony to the House Oversight Committee, which is now under Republican control. While Smith reportedly alleged “powerful evidence” of obstruction by Trump, the public has not seen the full transcript.

“If this was so damning, why are they hiding the testimony?” asked Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who sits on the committee. “They’re terrified of transparency because the truth isn’t on their side.”

Smith, whose prosecution strategy has come under fire for timing indictments during Trump’s 2024 campaign, has also faced criticism for overstepping constitutional protections — including the Fourth Amendment against unreasonable searches and seizures.

After the rally, Trump took to Truth Social to double down on his criticism of the DOJ’s raid.

“Unreasonable Search and Seizure!!! That was the FBI’s CRIMINAL RAID on Mar-a-Lago,” he posted. “This can never be allowed to happen again!!! President DJT.”

He followed with a warning: “If they can do it to a president, they can do it to YOU.”
