Historians Stunned as Ancient Scroll Suggests Biblical Giants Once Walked the Earth

A dusty 3,300-year-old Egyptian scroll is suddenly blowing up the internet — because some researchers think it may hint that biblical giants weren’t just myth, but real-life towering humans.

The ancient document, known as Papyrus Anastasi I and tucked away in the British Museum since 1839, has resurfaced thanks to the Associates for Biblical Research in Pennsylvania. And what it describes has historians doing double-takes.

According to Genesis 6, the world once fell into chaos thanks to the Nephilim — the mysterious offspring of fallen angels and human women, depicted as enormous warriors and “men of renown.” Their presence, the Bible says, helped trigger God’s decision to flood the earth.

Now, Anastasi I appears to make an eerily similar claim.

The scroll, believed to date back to the 13th century BCE, references encounters with the Shosu people — a group described as so large they terrified nearby Israelites. Some were reportedly around eight feet tall, according to the translation first highlighted by the Daily Mail.

Researchers say the text reads like a letter from an ancient Egyptian scribe describing a dangerous passageway: “The narrow defile is infested with Shosu concealed beneath the bushes; some of them are of four cubits or of five cubits, from head to foot, fierce of face… they hearken not to coaxing.”

Four to five cubits works out to roughly eight feet.

The idea lines up with another Old Testament reference in Numbers 13:33, where Israelite spies famously describe giants so big they felt like “grasshoppers” in comparison.

Still, mainstream historians aren’t convinced. No physical remains of giant humans have ever been verified, leaving these towering figures rooted firmly in legend — at least for now.

But the giant mystery doesn’t end in Egypt. Tales out of Central America and even Nevada keep the debate alive, including a bizarre 20th-century claim from miners who said they uncovered around 60 skeletons measuring up to eight feet tall.

Whether these stories point to ancient truths or centuries-old tall tales, one thing’s clear: the legend of giants isn’t going extinct anytime soon.
