Jill Biden’s Ex-Husband Charged with Murdering Wife

In a stunning development tied to the First Family’s past, Jill Biden’s former husband has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife.

William Stevenson, 77, was indicted Monday by a Delaware grand jury in connection with the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, according to court records obtained by multiple outlets.

The arrest comes weeks after police were called to the couple’s Wilmington-area home late on the night of December 28, following what authorities described as a domestic disturbance.

According to law enforcement sources, officers from New Castle County Police responded to the residence shortly after 11 p.m. When they arrived, Linda Stevenson, 64, was found unresponsive in the living room.

First responders attempted lifesaving measures but were unable to revive her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dispatch audio from that night reportedly referenced a possible cardiac arrest. However, investigators have not publicly released the official cause or manner of death.

William Stevenson was the one who placed the 911 call and initially cooperated with police, according to officials familiar with the investigation.

Despite the early uncertainty surrounding Linda Stevenson’s death, prosecutors moved forward with a serious charge following further investigation.

Stevenson was formally arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held on $500,000 bond at a Delaware detention facility.

Authorities have not yet disclosed what evidence led the grand jury to indict him, and prosecutors declined to comment on whether forensic findings or witness statements played a role.

“This remains an active and ongoing case,” a law enforcement spokesperson said, urging patience as the legal process unfolds.

The case has drawn national attention because of Stevenson’s past marriage to Jill Biden, now the First Lady of the United States in 2026, during Donald Trump’s second term as president.

Jill Biden married William Stevenson in February 1970, when she was a college student at the University of Delaware and he was 23 years old. The marriage ended in 1974 after a contentious divorce that Jill Biden has previously described as emotionally difficult.

Just three years later, in June 1977, she married Joe Biden, then a U.S. senator from Delaware.

Neither Jill Biden nor representatives for the Biden family have commented publicly on the charges. Court records do not indicate whether Stevenson has entered a plea.

As the case moves forward, prosecutors are expected to reveal more details about what they believe happened inside the Stevenson home that December night.

For now, a death initially described as a medical emergency has turned into a high-profile murder case—one with unexpected ties to America’s political history.

  1. Interesting… While having an active extra marital affair Jill married “Ole Joe” right after his wife and children died in a freak auto accident? I think he was accused of murdering them as well.

    1. I’ve never heard that. Biden’s wife and daughter were killed in an auto accident. I believe Jill was in the process of divorcing her first husband when she first met Joe. So not an extra marital affair.
