A shocking murder has rattled one of the wealthiest corners of the Washington, D.C. suburbs.
Robert Fuller Jr., an 87-year-old millionaire philanthropist from Maine, was shot to death inside a high-end assisted living facility in Potomac, Maryland — and days later, police say no arrests have been made.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, officers responded to an early morning emergency call on February 14 at Cogir Potomac Senior Living.
First responders discovered Fuller suffering from severe head trauma.
“After processing the scene, Homicide detectives confirmed that Fuller had been shot,” police said in a statement. His death is officially being investigated as a homicide. Authorities say the case has been turned over to the medical examiner to determine the precise cause and manner of death.
As of now, there are no named suspects. No arrests. And few public answers.
While residents in Potomac are reeling, the loss is being felt just as deeply in Augusta, Maine — where Fuller was known as both a successful attorney and a generous civic force.
A retired Navy Reserve officer, Fuller poured millions into his hometown over the years. One of his most notable gifts? A $1.6 million donation to upgrade the athletic complex at Cony High School during the financial strain of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the time, Fuller made clear he saw his contribution as more than charity.
“When a high school has a continuing history of athletic success, it fosters a sense of community pride,” he said when the project was announced. “You can’t have successful teams these days without the infrastructure you need to support them. So I don’t think of my action as simply a gift but rather as an investment in Augusta’s future.”
The athletic field was later named in his honor.
Fuller’s generosity stretched well beyond school athletics. He also supported:
- MaineGeneral Medical Center
- The Kennebec Historical Society
- The Kennebec Valley YMCA
- Old Fort Western, a historic landmark in Augusta
- Local libraries and civic institutions
His philanthropy left fingerprints across the city — from classrooms to medical centers to historic preservation projects.
Potomac is known for sprawling estates, political power players, and a sense of quiet exclusivity. Violent crime is rare — especially inside a secured senior living community.
That’s what makes this case all the more chilling.
Who would target an 87-year-old philanthropist inside a luxury assisted living facility? Was it random? Personal? A burglary gone wrong?
Police have not said.
For now, investigators remain tight-lipped as they work to piece together what happened in the early hours of February 14.
Meanwhile, two communities — one in Maryland and one nearly 600 miles north in Maine — are mourning a man whose life ended in a way few could have imagined.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Montgomery County police as the investigation continues.

Question: Was Fuller an associate of the Clintons?
Sounds to me like the Democrats in Maine and DC weren’t getting their usual cut and kickbacks on the construction projects!
Maine’s Governor can be an evil, vindictive bitch and no doubt has a hand in this.
Now, time to follow the money!!
