President Donald Trump revealed Monday that his longtime political strategist and current White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles, has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer — but emphasized that doctors expect a strong recovery.
Speaking publicly and posting on Truth Social, Trump assured Americans that Wiles has already begun treatment and plans to remain at her post inside the White House while fighting the disease.
“Susie Wiles is an incredible Chief of Staff, a great person, and one of the strongest people I know,” Trump wrote. “She has a fantastic medical team, and her prognosis is excellent.”
The president added that Wiles is tackling the diagnosis immediately rather than delaying treatment — a decision he praised as a reflection of her toughness and commitment to the country.
“She will be spending virtually full time at the White House during treatment,” Trump said. “Her strength and her commitment to doing the job she loves tells you everything you need to know about her.”
Wiles has long been considered one of the most influential figures in Trump’s political orbit. The veteran Republican strategist helped engineer Trump’s historic 2024 comeback campaign and later became the president’s top adviser as chief of staff.
Known for operating largely behind the scenes, Wiles built a reputation in Republican politics as a disciplined tactician and crisis manager.
Trump has frequently credited her with helping guide the campaign through relentless legal battles, media scrutiny, and political attacks leading up to his return to the White House.
During a meeting at the White House Monday, Trump again praised Wiles personally while she sat nearby.
“She’s fantastic. She’s an amazing person and an amazing fighter,” the president said.
Wiles confirmed the diagnosis in a statement, noting that the disease was caught early.
“This past week, I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she said. “Nearly one in eight women in the United States will face this diagnosis. Every day these women continue to raise their families, go to work, and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks.”
She said doctors detected the cancer early and that she is encouraged by the outlook.
“I am grateful to have an outstanding team of doctors guiding my care and encouraged by a strong prognosis,” Wiles said.
She also thanked Trump for his support as she continues her work inside the administration.
“I am deeply thankful for the support and encouragement of President Trump as I undergo treatment while continuing to serve as White House chief of staff.”
Members of the Trump administration quickly rallied around Wiles.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called her one of the strongest leaders she has ever worked with.
“Susie Wiles epitomizes what it means to be a strong leader,” Leavitt wrote on social media. “She led President Trump’s historic comeback campaign and now helps lead the most successful administration in history.”
Deputy chief of staff James Blair pointed to the intense political battles Wiles has already helped navigate.
“She led President Trump’s team through illegitimate indictments, political lawfare, assassination attempts, and more,” Blair wrote. “She will win this battle as well.”
Lawmakers from both parties also offered well-wishes.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said he and his wife are praying for Wiles and encouraged regular cancer screenings.
“Early detection saves lives,” Grassley wrote, referencing his wife’s own breast cancer experience decades ago.
Even Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania expressed support, writing that he hopes Wiles “kicks breast cancer’s a–.”
Florida Sen. Rick Scott, who worked with Wiles during his first gubernatorial campaign, called her one of the toughest political strategists he has ever known.
“She’s one of the hardest-working people I know,” Scott said. “Susie is a fighter and will get through this stronger than ever.”
Trump closed his announcement by saying he has no doubt Wiles will overcome the challenge.
“Melania and I are with her in every way,” the president wrote. “We look forward to working with Susie on the many big and wonderful things happening for our country.”
For now, the president said, one of his most trusted advisers remains exactly where she has always been — inside the West Wing, continuing the job.
And, according to Trump, doing it with the same determination that helped power one of the most dramatic political comebacks in modern American history.
