Chuck Norris’ Secret Daughter Stayed Quiet for Decades to Protect His Family

For nearly 30 years, Chuck Norris had no idea a brief affair had resulted in a child — until one unexpected letter changed everything.

The martial arts icon and Hollywood tough guy, who died on March 19, 2026, at age 86 in Hawaii, revealed the deeply personal family bombshell years earlier in his 2004 memoir Against All Odds. According to Norris, the revelation came out of nowhere in 1991 when he opened a letter from a woman named Dina claiming she was his daughter from a long-ago encounter.

And once he saw her in person, he said there was no doubt in his mind.

Norris later recalled that Dina’s letter explained she had learned the truth when she was 16, but had been told not to disrupt his family because he was married at the time. She also made it clear she would not bother him again if he chose not to respond.

The claim sent Norris reeling back to August 1962, just before he was discharged from the Air Force and stationed in Riverside, California. In his memoir, he admitted he had a sexual encounter with a woman he met at a nightclub while he was still married to his first wife, Dianne Holechek.

Norris did not shy away from the guilt he felt over the affair, writing that he knew what he had done was wrong and that it conflicted with his Christian beliefs.

At first, he was unsure how to handle Dina’s shocking letter. He asked his mother to meet with the young woman first. But after his mother saw Dina face-to-face, she immediately urged him to come over.

What happened next became one of the most emotional moments of Norris’ life.

In his book, Norris said he walked into the room, saw Dina standing there, and instantly knew she was his child. He wrote that he did not need a DNA test or blood work. The resemblance and the connection hit him all at once.

The reunion was immediate and overwhelming. Norris said the two embraced and cried together, and he felt as though he had known her forever.

Dina later told him that her mother became pregnant after their only encounter. Shortly after Dina was born, her mother married another man, and Dina grew up believing that man was her father. But when she was 16, she overheard her mother discussing Norris and finally learned the truth.

Even then, she stayed away.

It was only about a decade later, after reading that Norris had divorced, that Dina decided to reach out. With her husband’s support, she sent the letter that would finally connect her to her biological father.

From there, the relationship moved quickly. Norris and Dina formed a close bond, and the timing seemed almost unbelievable. By the early 1990s, Norris was starring in Walker, Texas Ranger, which filmed in Dallas — the same city where Dina, her husband, and their three children had relocated.

Norris later wrote that he believed it was all part of God’s plan to bring them together. He also said Dina and her family became a blessed part of his life.

He even publicly apologized to Dina’s mother for the deception surrounding their past, while reflecting on the choices he regretted. At the same time, he made clear that he never saw Dina as anything less than a gift, writing that there is no such thing as an illegitimate child and that every child is precious in God’s eyes.

Though Dina has remained largely out of the spotlight, the story remained one of the most jaw-dropping chapters of Norris’ life — a private family secret that stayed hidden for nearly three decades before ending in an emotional reunion.

In the years that followed, Norris continued to lean heavily into his faith and family life. His Christian beliefs also helped shape his work outside Hollywood, including the founding of Kickstart Kids, a Texas-based martial arts nonprofit that has reached tens of thousands of students.

After news of his death broke, Norris’ family remembered him not just as an action legend, but as the center of their family — a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother whose life was guided by faith, discipline, and love.

But long before the tributes poured in, Norris had already shared one of the most astonishing truths of his life: the moment he discovered the daughter he never knew he had.
