Secret Diaries: RFK Jr. Disses Tom Hanks & Bill Clinton

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., long a public figure known for his environmental advocacy and political lineage, has a private side few have seen—until now. Secret diaries, reportedly discovered after the tragic death of his second wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, reveal sharp opinions about Hollywood stars, political allies, and even his own family. The entries, spanning years, offer a sensational glimpse into his life, thoughts, and personal demons.

A Scathing View of Hollywood’s Elite

Kennedy’s encounters with celebrities are peppered with candid and often unflattering commentary. In February 2000, he described actor Tom Hanks as a “chronic complainer,” writing, “I thought the guy was a chronic complainer when he seemed to have the best luck on Earth.”

Bruce Willis, met on the set of The Story of Us, was described as surprisingly slight. “I was struck by how slim and strong Willis was—almost slight,” Kennedy wrote in February 1999, adding that director Rob Reiner avoided political discussions with the actor, whom he called “a libertarian of sorts.”

Kennedy dined with Larry David and Julia Louis-Dreyfus during a Los Angeles trip, later joking about staying out of trouble in the city that “always dogs me.”

Political Disillusionment and Scorn

Kennedy’s political diaries reveal disappointment with figures like Bill Clinton. The former president’s controversial 2001 pardon of financier Marc Rich left Kennedy disgusted. “He has sold out all who believed in him for trinkets,” Kennedy wrote, calling Clinton “highly flawed.”

Kennedy also noted frustration with Democratic inaction on issues like Vieques, a Puerto Rican nature preserve used for Navy bombing exercises. His efforts to halt the bombings, including speaking with high-ranking officials, led to a brief stint in prison in 2001. During this time, actor Benicio del Toro visited him, leading to conversations about Hunter S. Thompson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Hollywood’s scandals.

Family Critiques and Personal Turmoil

Even Kennedy’s own family didn’t escape his scrutiny. He criticized his cousin Caroline Kennedy’s husband, Edwin Schlossberg, accusing him of mishandling Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s estate. “Not a penny was sheltered,” Kennedy lamented, adding that Jackie’s son, John F. Kennedy Jr., seemed indifferent.

The diaries also delve into Kennedy’s self-confessed struggles with “powerful demons” and “wild impulses.” Found by his late wife Mary, the journals reportedly included coded references to sexual acts. Mary’s discovery of these entries reportedly deepened the turmoil in their marriage, which ended in tragedy with her 2012 suicide.
