Dr. Anthony Fauci, once hailed as America’s foremost infectious disease expert, joined Georgetown University’s faculty in 2023 with much fanfare. In an August 2024 interview with The Georgetowner, Fauci claimed to have delivered lectures, participated in seminars, and held fireside chats for students across various schools within the university. He also mentioned making himself available for one-on-one meetings.

Fauci further expanded his academic footprint in April 2024, joining Georgetown’s O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law as a “Distinguished Senior Scholar.” This position, according to the university, focuses on advancing “the right to health” and addressing urgent global health challenges.

Despite these contributions, the lack of classroom instruction has raised questions about the practical impact of his prestigious appointment.

Renewed Scrutiny Over Fauci’s Legacy

The controversy surrounding Fauci’s Georgetown role coincides with renewed criticism of his leadership during the pandemic. A two-year congressional investigation recently concluded that COVID-19 most likely originated from a lab in Wuhan, China. The report also criticized early pandemic measures like social distancing and masking, stating they lacked scientific backing.
