In a fiery exchange on MSNBC’s The Beat, former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera didn’t hold back his disdain for Trump advisor Stephen Miller, going so far as to say he’d consider stepping into the ring one more time to “punch [Miller] in the nose.”
At 81, Rivera openly admitted his boxing days are behind him but expressed frustration over Miller’s controversial immigration policies, calling them “draconian.” Rivera’s comments came as news broke that President-elect Donald Trump is planning an aggressive crackdown on undocumented immigrants during his second term, with Miller slated to play a central role as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Adviser.
Rivera: “He’s the Definition of Draconian”
Rivera’s criticism was sharp and personal.
“I’m an old man, I’ve been a boxer all my life,” Rivera said. “I’ve given it up because of my frailty, but I would come back to punch Stephen Miller in the nose because he is the most hideous, in terms of his policy.”
Rivera, once a close friend of Trump, has become one of his harshest critics. In a 2023 interview, Rivera warned that a second Trump term could bring “brutality” against immigrants. On Wednesday, he doubled down, describing Miller as “Dr. Evil” and accusing him of intentionally stoking division.
“He doesn’t want to solve the border issue. He wants to scapegoat certain people in ways he thinks will benefit President Trump politically,” Rivera added.
A Legacy of Controversy
Stephen Miller has been a polarizing figure in American politics for years. As a senior advisor during Trump’s first term, he was the architect of several hardline immigration policies, including the travel ban targeting predominantly Muslim countries and the widely criticized family separation policy. The Southern Poverty Law Center has identified Miller as promoting extremist ideologies.
For Trump’s second term, Miller’s return signals a continuation of these controversial approaches. The President-elect has already suggested that Miller will spearhead high-profile immigration raids in cities like Washington, D.C., further escalating tensions.
From Allies to Adversaries
Rivera and Trump’s friendship dates back decades, but their relationship has deteriorated over political differences. Rivera, who left Fox News in 2023 after a 23-year tenure, had grown increasingly uncomfortable with the network’s alignment with Trump’s policies.
In 2016, Rivera publicly criticized Trump’s rhetoric as “inhumane,” and by 2023, he predicted that the administration’s focus on immigration would only become harsher.
“Trump’s rhetoric attacks the very soul of what it means to be an immigrant in America,” Rivera said at the time. “And Stephen Miller is his willing enforcer.”
A Divided Reaction
During the interview, host Ari Melber sought to temper Rivera’s fiery remarks, noting, “The show opposes all types of violence.” He suggested that Rivera’s combative language mirrored the kind of rhetoric Trump often uses. Rivera, laughing in response, didn’t back down.
As Trump’s second term takes shape, the nation remains deeply divided over immigration policies. Rivera’s words underscore a broader debate that continues to define the country’s political landscape. Whether Miller’s return signals a new chapter or a doubling down on past policies, one thing is certain: the conversation is far from over.

Jerry Rivers changed his name to Geraldo Rivera many years ago. Why? Some say to grab the ethnic vote. I don’t trust him.
I’m always amazed at how people completely remove the illegal component from the immigration arguments. No body cares about people who came to this country legally, but they do care about people who came here and were given asylum without any background checks or proof that they even qualify. Once they are here, it is very difficult to remove them. In some very sad cases, these immigrants have either intentionally, though intentional criminal actions, or unintentionally, through auto and other accidents, cause harm or death to Americans. If they hadn’t been allowed into the country or been removed once they had demonstrated that they weren’t here to get along, the people affected would still be alive. Leftists like Geraldo are all to quick to call for the total disarming of Americans to save even one life and they support forced searches for weapons, but we can’t remove the threats caused by illegal immigrants.
Geraldo had a short lived radio talk show in Cleveland. He claims he’s conservative, but that’s a lie.
Wazz up with Octogenarian Democrats always wanting to punch people?
I believe at this time it would be a bit inhumane to randomly send all illegals back to where they came from, yet, a happy medium could be close by, as in MEXICO! A country like Mexico needs good citizens to bring up their countries Values! I believe that President Trump could negotiate with President Claudia Sheinbaum to incorporate these human beings into every day Mexican life.
Cannot stand Geraldo at all never did like him. He is fake and I don’t what he says. Illegals should not be here. Even under the administration. There is not enough for everyone.
Jerry Rivers changed his name to Geraldo Rivera years ago to get the liberals behind him.
Geraldo ceased being relevant right after his Al Capone\’s Vault fiasco, no one cares what he says.

Friends like GR no one needs. I don’t hear him say much about the legal American citizens who have suffered the consequences of these Geraldo Rivera God fearing law abiding undocumented democrats. Don’t let GR fool you he was born a liberal and he will die one.
There should not be any middle eastern in America ever since 911. Once a hater always a hater. They don’t want to be an American. They want to push their ideas and agendas onto us. How can you not agree.
deeply divided? Trump won due to the immigration problem and the majority wants illegals to be deported!
POOR BABY GERALDO-GIVE HIM A PACIFIER-THATS WHAT HE NEEDS.
