Democrats Slammed for Sitting as Young Cancer Survivor is Honored by Trump

A moment meant to unite the country instead exposed the stark divide in American politics as many Democrats refused to stand and applaud for 13-year-old brain cancer survivor DJ Daniel, whom former President Donald Trump honored during his joint address to Congress on Tuesday night.

As Trump celebrated Daniel’s resilience and announced his honorary induction as a Secret Service agent, Republican lawmakers and much of the audience erupted into a standing ovation. However, a noticeable portion of Democratic legislators remained seated, seemingly unwilling to acknowledge the young boy’s inspiring journey.

The reaction—or lack thereof—sparked immediate backlash across social media and from conservative leaders. Former Acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell expressed his outrage, tweeting, “A terminally ill child with brain cancer is given an honorary Secret Service award, and the Democrats refuse to stand or clap for the child. What kind of people do this?”

Conservative Figures Slam Democrats’ Cold Reaction

Political commentator Clay Travis didn’t mince words, stating, “Democrats refused to stand for the brain cancer-surviving kid! How awful can one party be?” Meanwhile, Republican activist Scott Pressler and conservative social media influencer Libs of TikTok echoed the sentiment, calling the Democrats’ behavior “truly sick.”

Miranda Devine, a columnist for the New York Post, also weighed in, adding, “Can’t believe the lousy Democrats can’t even applaud a little boy with brain cancer or a Kennedy who wants to Make America Healthy Again.” The latter remark references the growing influence of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose advocacy for health and medical freedom has resonated with many conservatives.

Even Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Senator John McCain—who himself succumbed to brain cancer in 2018—expressed deep emotion over the moment. “This is the first time I can remember crying during a state of the union. Thank you, President Trump. This is so beautiful. Anyone who has been impacted by brain cancer knows how special this is,” she posted.

Democrats Dismiss Accusations, Downplay the Moment

While Republicans and many Americans saw the recognition of DJ Daniel as a heartfelt tribute, some on the left were quick to push back. Liberal commentator Kyle Kulinski dismissed the moment as political theater, accusing Trump of using the boy “as a prop” to pander to his base. Others attempted to downplay the incident, claiming their decision not to stand was due to broader concerns about the former president’s policies rather than any ill will toward the child.

Democrats’ Night of Disruptions and Protest

The refusal to acknowledge a child’s battle against cancer was only one of several controversies involving Democrats during Trump’s speech. Early in the address, radical leftist Rep. Al Green (D-TX) was forcibly removed from the chamber by the Sergeant of Arms after disrupting the proceedings. Meanwhile, socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and progressive firebrand Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) made headlines for leaving the speech early in protest.

Additionally, Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-NY) was seen holding up a protest sign alongside fellow Democrats—another sign of the increasing extremism within the party. The contrast between Trump’s message of unity and resilience and the left’s petulant antics could not have been clearer.

A Defining Moment in the Culture War?

The moment Democrats sat stone-faced as a young boy who battled cancer was honored may prove to be yet another defining moment in the deepening cultural and political divide. To many Americans watching at home, it sent a chilling message about the state of today’s Democratic Party—a party that, in the eyes of millions, has become so blinded by its hatred for Trump that it refuses to celebrate a child’s courage.

As 2024’s presidential election looms ever closer, Republicans are already pointing to Tuesday night as evidence of what’s truly at stake: a choice between a party that stands for American values, strength, and resilience, and a party that seems increasingly detached from the everyday struggles of real Americans.

One thing is certain—voters will remember what they saw on that historic night.

  1. The Democrats made fools of themselves last night. It is disgusting to watch them disrespect the President of the United States in front of the world but, to disrespect the Americans that were there to be honored is unforgivable!

  2. There are certain things you just don’t do. Disrespecting a young 13 year old with hopes and dreams and has fought hard just to survive is one of them. Shame on you Democrats. What are you afraid of?

  3. Ignorance is bliss they must be happy as hell but the sure look like they are the most miserable people alive.

  4. You just cannot expect much from a group of POS’s, you will always be disappointed. Get active, donate time and money to remove the cancer that is the Demo party.

  5. It was so nice to see that young boy getting reconnized. Democrats were disgraceful, the way they acted.

  6. The demokrap don’t have any idea, the welfare of the country comes first. The new Demokrap don’t see it that way.
