4 Young Girls Rushed to Hospital After Horrific Meat Cleaver Attack

A horrifying scene unfolded in Brooklyn on Sunday morning when a man armed with a meat cleaver attacked four young girls inside a Bensonhurst apartment, prompting NYPD officers to open fire. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was shot multiple times and left with life-threatening injuries.

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, the violent incident began around 10:30 a.m. when officers responded to a domestic violence call at 1671 84th Street. They were let into the building by an uninjured child and quickly heard screams coming from behind a closed door inside the apartment.

Officers forced their way in and found a man holding a blood-covered meat cleaver. Blood was reportedly splattered across the floors and walls.

“The officers ordered the suspect to drop the weapon several times,” Tisch said. “He refused and advanced toward them. Two officers discharged their firearms, firing seven total rounds.” The bullets struck the suspect, effectively stopping the threat.

The entire confrontation was captured on body cameras, though the footage has not yet been released.

Inside the apartment, officers found four girls—ages 8, 11, 13, and 16—seriously wounded with slash and stab injuries. Graphic footage and witness reports described the girls as being covered in blood. All four victims were rushed to Maimonides Medical Center and are expected to survive.

“This could have ended very differently,” Tisch said, praising the swift response of officers and EMS teams who provided emergency aid on the scene.

One witness, Humberto Hureta, saw the suspect being carried out on a stretcher. “They brought out a guy all bloody, without a shirt. I don’t know who it was, but they shot him twice. His eyes were rolling back in his head,” he said.

Another neighbor, identified only as Maria, described watching through her window as the bloodied children were carried out. “I was shaking. I’m still shaking now,” she said.

There are reports suggesting the suspect may have been related to the children, possibly their uncle, though police have not confirmed that connection.

Law enforcement sources told local outlets that the man lunged at officers before they opened fire. As of Sunday afternoon, the NYPD said no one had died, and both the suspect and the victims remained hospitalized.
