15-Year-Old Boy Kills Grandmother and Stabs Mom Over Computer

A quiet Long Island neighborhood turned into a crime scene Monday night when a 15-year-old boy allegedly snapped during a family argument and launched a knife attack that left his grandmother dead and his mother critically wounded.

According to Suffolk County Police, the violent episode erupted around 9:45 p.m. inside a modest home on Old Town Road, after the teen’s mother confronted him about disturbing content discovered on his computer.

Authorities have not disclosed the exact nature of the material, but multiple law enforcement sources told the media that the content raised serious concerns. One investigator said, “It wasn’t typical teenage behavior. It alarmed the family enough to demand answers—and tragically, it cost a life.”

The teen reportedly flew into a rage during the confrontation, stabbing his mother, 36-year-old Vanessa Chendemi, multiple times. Despite suffering deep wounds to her face, back, arm, and neck, Vanessa managed to escape the house and flagged down a passing driver who immediately called 911.

When officers arrived, they found 56-year-old Concetta Chendemi, the boy’s grandmother, fatally stabbed inside the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is a heartbreaking case. You never expect something this horrific to unfold in a family setting—especially involving a 15-year-old,” said Suffolk County Police Chief Rodney Harrison at a press conference early Tuesday.

The teen fled the home on foot but was apprehended less than an hour later near Dare Road and Buckskin Lane—just half a mile away. He is currently charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder, and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Central Islip.

Police confirmed there were no prior reports of domestic violence at the residence, a detail that has shocked neighbors.

“They seemed like a normal, working-class family,” said one resident, who asked not to be named. “This just doesn’t make any sense.”

Vanessa Chendemi remains hospitalized in stable condition in the intensive care unit. She is expected to survive her injuries.

The incident has reignited debates around parental oversight, youth discipline, and the role of violent or inappropriate digital content in the home.

Conservative commentator and family advocate Mark Walters weighed in on the tragedy during a morning radio segment. “This is exactly what happens when kids are raised by the internet instead of by values. Parents need the right to know what’s happening on their children’s devices before it ends in tragedy,” he said.

As of Tuesday morning, the suspect’s identity remains sealed due to his age. Prosecutors have not ruled out the possibility of trying him as an adult.
