American Man Found Dead During Family Vacation After Leaving Dinner to Get Jacket

A family vacation to the Bahamas turned into tragedy after a 23-year-old American man from Maryland was found dead on a beach just hours after arriving on Paradise Island. Now, his family is calling the circumstances surrounding his death suspicious.

Dinari McAlmont had landed in Nassau on April 6 with his parents and was staying at The Reef at Atlantis, a luxury resort on Paradise Island. According to his mother, Michelle McAlmont, everything seemed normal until Dinari stepped away from dinner to retrieve a jacket—and never returned. When his parents couldn’t reach him and his phone location failed to help, they reported him missing.

Just 12 hours later, McAlmont was found dead on a beach on Paradise Island.

His mother later told Eyewitness News Bahamas that she was “traumatized” after identifying her son’s body and claimed he appeared to have been beaten. FOX 5 D.C. was the first to report her statement. The Royal Bahamas Police Force, meanwhile, has not confirmed any details about potential injuries and said they are waiting on the results of the autopsy.

Police Commissioner Shanta Knowles acknowledged the ongoing investigation but did not offer additional information when contacted by Fox News Digital.

The resort issued a statement expressing condolences: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our guests. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. We are fully cooperating with the authorities as they conduct their investigation.”

The tragedy comes at a time when the U.S. State Department has issued a Level 2 Travel Advisory for the Bahamas, advising travelers to “exercise increased caution” due to rising concerns over crime and security threats. Similar advisories are currently in place for other Caribbean destinations, including Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos, and the Netherlands Antilles.

While the official cause of death has yet to be determined, the McAlmont family continues to press for answers as they mourn the sudden and mysterious loss of their son.
