The White House ignited a political firestorm this week with a jarring split-screen photo that lays bare the stark difference between Republicans and Democrats on border security. On one side: President Donald Trump comforting Angel Mom Patty Morin, whose daughter Rachel was raped and murdered by an illegal migrant. On the other: Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen shaking hands with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man the Trump administration identifies as an MS-13 gang member.
“We are not the same,” read the White House caption, tagging Van Hollen directly in a blistering post that has since gone viral.
A Mother’s Pain, a Nation’s Outrage
Patty Morin’s daughter, 37-year-old Rachel Morin, was brutally assaulted and killed in 2023 in Maryland. The suspect, Victor Martinez-Hernandez, is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who had previously been linked to violent crimes in Los Angeles. Yet, as Morin mourns her loss, the senator who represents her state has been spending his time and taxpayer dollars overseas—advocating for another illegal immigrant.
“To have a senator from Maryland who didn’t even acknowledge the death of my daughter, but would fly to El Salvador to meet with a non-citizen criminal?” Morin said during an emotional appearance at the White House press briefing. “My daughter left behind five children. Now there’s a baby who will never know her grandmother. And yet that man—Kilmar—gets a visit from our senator? Why does he have more rights than my family?”
Who Is Kilmar Abrego Garcia?
Abrego Garcia, 29, was living in Maryland with his wife and children before being deported last month to El Salvador. Trump officials say he was removed due to suspected MS-13 gang ties and domestic abuse. Van Hollen claims the deportation was a bureaucratic error and has demanded his release, calling it “absolutely unjust.”
Despite being blocked multiple times, Van Hollen finally met with Garcia on Friday and even passed a personal message to his wife. “I’ve called Jennifer to share his words of love,” Van Hollen wrote on X, posting a photo of their meeting.
But Trump Allies Are Not Having It
Attorney General Pam Bondi fired back. “Kilmar Abrego Garcia is not coming back into this country. Period. This administration will not tolerate foreign criminals hiding behind procedural errors.”
Former DHS officials say the deportation was fully justified. One insider told us, “We did what the Biden administration refused to do—remove dangerous individuals who don’t belong here.”
Court Chaos and Media Silence
A federal court and the U.S. Supreme Court have since ordered the Trump administration to facilitate Garcia’s return to the U.S. for a new round of deportation proceedings, citing technical flaws in the process. But Trump officials remain firm: El Salvador can keep him.
Meanwhile, Patty Morin is begging the media to stop covering for violent illegals. “My daughter’s killer was already wanted for murder in his home country. He snuck into ours and did it again. Why won’t you tell the truth?”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed that frustration in a fiery segment on Hannity. “Patty Morin has more courage than half of Washington. Democrats want to erase her story because it doesn’t fit their narrative. But we won’t let that happen.”
