Leftist Influencer Banned Over ‘Sick’ Comments on Terror Attack

A left-wing social media firebrand with a long history of inflammatory rhetoric is once again making headlines—this time for crossing a red line with his own platform.

Hasan Piker, a self-proclaimed socialist influencer and frequent critic of Israel and American foreign policy, has been suspended from the video-streaming site Twitch after casting doubt on the motives behind a deadly terror attack in Washington, D.C. that left two Israeli diplomats dead. His controversial remarks sparked outrage across the political spectrum and led to accusations of antisemitism and conspiracy mongering.

Questioning a Terror Attack—On Air

Piker, 33, who goes by “HasanAbi” online and boasts more than 2.8 million Twitch followers, suggested the embassy shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum might have been a “false flag” operation during a recent livestream. His comments came just hours after authorities charged Elias Rodriguez with the calculated assassination of Israeli diplomats Yaron Lischinsky and his fiancée Sarah Milgrim.

“You could not have designed a better false flag incident than this,” Piker said, as he dissected the suspected shooter’s manifesto live on air. “I’m not saying it is one, but everything is so crazy—it’s almost too convenient.”

Despite trying to walk back his remarks—saying Rodriguez was “just one dude” who may be “brain broken”—the damage was done. Twitch swiftly suspended Piker for “Improper Handling of Terrorist Propaganda” and “Sharing content related to terrorist or violent extremist groups.”

Backlash Was Swift and Brutal

The blowback online was immediate. Thousands condemned Piker’s remarks as not just insensitive, but dangerous.

“You called it a false flag. You hate the Jewish people and you are antisemitic,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Others accused him of giving oxygen to fringe conspiracy theories that echo classic antisemitic tropes.

“This should’ve happened way sooner,” another user added. “You’ve been spewing hateful and violent rhetoric for years.”

Despite the uproar, Piker remained defiant. In a post on X, he shared a screenshot of his suspension notice and called Twitch’s decision “a bad policy for news and press freedom.” He argued that his intentions were journalistic.

Ironically, the stream meant to “dispel false flag theories,” as he put it, only gave more traction to the very narratives he claimed to oppose.

A Pattern of Extremism?

Piker’s recent suspension is hardly his first brush with controversy. Just weeks ago, he was reportedly detained by U.S. immigration officials at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport after returning from France. According to Piker, he was questioned about previous comments critics claim expressed support for Hamas and the Houthi rebels—groups officially designated as terrorist organizations by the U.S. government.

While Piker insists he’s merely providing “critical analysis” of world events, many see a troubling pattern.

“This is someone with a massive platform who repeatedly undermines the seriousness of terror threats, attacks U.S. allies, and excuses extremism,” said former U.S. counterterrorism analyst Mark Conrad. “We’re way past political opinion—this borders on incitement.”

The Victims and the Tragedy

The timing of Piker’s comments couldn’t be more callous. The victims of the attack—Lischinsky and Milgrim—were engaged and deeply involved in fostering cultural exchange between the U.S. and Israel. Friends described them as “passionate, peaceful ambassadors” who had just finished giving a speech at the museum moments before they were gunned down.

Rodriguez, the suspect, is facing federal terrorism and murder charges. His manifesto, described by law enforcement as a mix of anti-Israel ideology and violent revolutionary rhetoric, is being examined for ties to known extremist networks.

Twitch Stays Silent

Twitch, owned by Amazon, has yet to release an official statement on the suspension or whether further action will be taken. Critics on both sides have questioned the platform’s uneven moderation practices—pointing to Twitch’s tolerance of violent rhetoric when it comes from politically favored creators.

As pressure mounts on platforms to crack down on hate and extremism, Hasan Piker’s latest fall from grace might finally force tech companies to draw clearer lines—especially when it comes to attacks on American allies and their people.

BOTTOM LINE: A so-called progressive voice crossed into conspiracy territory, casting doubt on a horrific act of violence. Now the consequences are catching up. And many say it’s about time.
