Tom Brady Booed by Crowd at the Indy 500 (Video)

Tom Brady might be a legend on the football field, but at the Indianapolis 500, the crowd made it clear they haven’t forgotten the past.

The retired NFL superstar stepped onto the stage during a pre-race ceremony on Sunday, May 25, only to be greeted by a loud wave of boos from the audience — many of whom were likely loyal Indianapolis Colts fans. Brady, dressed in a full racing suit and sunglasses, handled it with a smile and a casual wave, but the awkwardness was hard to ignore.

The tension stems from a long-standing rivalry between the Colts and Brady’s former team, the New England Patriots. Brady famously crushed Indianapolis playoff hopes more than once — including in the 2014 AFC title game that ignited the infamous “Deflategate” scandal. That drama still seems to live rent-free in the minds of Colts Nation.

Now 47, Brady officially retired in 2023 and currently works as a sports commentator for Fox, backed by a 10-year mega deal. Though he’s traded his helmet for a headset, Brady admits the adjustment hasn’t always been easy.

“Although I’d much prefer to be on the field playing… I’m not doing that anymore,” he said on the Let’s Go! podcast last year. “But just watching from above and seeing how these guys are performing is pretty cool.”

He echoed that in a later interview, saying, “I try to wake up and do my best for the people that matter the most to me. My life’s pretty full. I’m very happy.”

Brady also owns a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders, a move that raised eyebrows due to his dual role in broadcasting. The NFL has since placed restrictions on him — limiting his access to team facilities and meetings to prevent conflicts of interest — but the optics continue to raise questions.

Between the lingering football feuds and his new role in the broadcast booth, one thing is clear: even in retirement, Tom Brady still knows how to stir up a crowd.
