Human Remains Found by Crew in Construction Site

What began as a routine road-widening project in Marana, Arizona turned into a chilling mystery after a construction crew unearthed human remains beneath the surface of a once-private property.

The crew was excavating near the corner of Twin Peaks Road and Silverbell Road on Thursday, June 12, when they stumbled upon the remains. The land had recently been acquired by the town for public use, but its hidden past is now taking center stage.

Workers immediately notified the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, whose deputies from the Tucson Mountain District quickly arrived and confirmed the disturbing discovery. The site has since been locked down as investigators work to uncover the truth about the skeletal remains.

Speaking from the scene the following day, sheriff’s department spokesperson Angelica Carrillo revealed a haunting detail — the remains are believed to be at least two decades old.

“They’ve been here for a while, well over 20 years,” Carrillo told reporters. However, she offered no specifics on the identity, sex, or cause of death, noting that the investigation is still in its early stages.

As detectives from the Homicide Unit comb through the area, all construction on the Twin Peaks widening project has been put on hold indefinitely. Authorities are also urging the public to avoid the area until further notice.

The remains were found near the Sunflower Community, a senior residential area, and just a short distance from both Marana High School and Twin Peaks K-8 School. Officials are warning residents to expect traffic disruptions in the days ahead.

Local parent Araceli Maybury expressed concern about the discovery and the ripple effects it’s causing. “It’s still kind of shocking, and if it pauses construction,” she told reporters. “It’s going to be kind of a disruption as Marana High School is back there. A lot of kids go to school, and the buses normally travel through there.”
