NBC veteran Chuck Todd says he’s convinced President Biden’s handlers plotted his on-stage downfall — all to force him out and hand the White House keys to someone else.

In a jaw-dropping segment of his podcast, Todd told The Atlantic’s Mark Leibovich that Biden’s June 2024 debate against then-candidate Donald Trump wasn’t just a campaign miscalculation — it was a calculated takedown from within.

“I will go to my grave believing the debate was intentional,” Todd declared, suggesting Biden’s own team scheduled the ill-fated showdown to finally expose their candidate’s glaring weaknesses in front of the nation.

Did Biden’s Team Orchestrate His Own Political Downfall?

The debate itself quickly became infamous. Americans across the country watched as Biden, 81, appeared confused and struggled to complete sentences. The performance sent shockwaves through the Democratic Party — and it didn’t take long for Biden to bow out of the race, endorsing Kamala Harris as his replacement.

But according to Todd, the fix was in long before the cameras rolled. “There were people within the White House, within the Biden campaign, who thought it would be a good thing to create some kind of daylight for the world to see what they were dealing with on a day-to-day basis,” Todd explained.

Leibovich agreed, noting whispers among top Democrats that the debate was less about convincing voters and more about convincing party insiders that Biden couldn’t continue.

The timing wasn’t random, either. “Who shakes up a race in late June?” Todd asked. “They knew when the nomination was going to be and they knew they needed an opportunity to make a change if it was necessary.”

Even as Biden’s close advisers, including Anita Dunn and Jen O’Malley Dillon, flatly denied any conspiracy, Todd wasn’t buying it: “Of course you’d deny that. If I were in their shoes and I did it, I’d deny it until I was blue in my face, okay?”

Todd even compared the alleged plot to the rumors that Ronald Reagan’s team delayed the release of American hostages in Iran until after Jimmy Carter’s defeat — the kind of political gamesmanship Americans have come to expect from Washington elites.

Biden’s health and mental sharpness have been an open question for years. The new book “Original Sin” claims White House staffers ran a full-blown cover-up of the president’s declining condition, while the debate debacle was the first public crack in the armor.

Republicans aren’t the only ones asking questions. “This was about party survival, not about Biden,” a senior GOP strategist told us. “Democrats were terrified of Trump but even more terrified of going into November with Biden at the top of the ticket.”
