In a shocking turn that’s only raising more red flags, President Trump’s House Oversight Committee was left empty-handed Wednesday morning after former White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor invoked the Fifth Amendment — multiple times — during a short, closed-door interview on Capitol Hill.
What was expected to be a deep dive into President Joe Biden’s mental and physical health quickly turned into a stonewalling session, with O’Connor refusing to answer key questions about his time as Biden’s personal doctor. The sit-down lasted less than 45 minutes.
“He wouldn’t even answer whether he was told to lie,” House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) said after the interview. “This isn’t just odd. It reeks of a cover-up.”
According to Comer, the committee’s very first question was: “Were you ever instructed to mislead the public about President Biden’s health?” O’Connor’s reply: silence, followed by a plea of the Fifth. He repeated that same constitutional protection when asked if he ever believed Biden was mentally unfit for office.
“When someone takes the Fifth in response to that kind of question — not once, but repeatedly — you don’t need a medical license to know something’s wrong,” Comer told reporters.
Legal Shield or Smokescreen?
O’Connor’s legal team insisted their client wasn’t hiding guilt, but rather defending medical ethics. In a lengthy statement, his lawyers said the committee’s demands would have forced him to break doctor-patient confidentiality — even if that patient is a former president.
“Revealing confidential medical information would violate Dr. O’Connor’s professional oath and could put his license at risk,” the statement read.
But critics aren’t buying it. With Biden’s shocking public gaffes, whispered aides’ concerns, and mounting questions about his ability to lead during his final year in office, Republicans are demanding answers.
“This isn’t just about Biden’s health,” said Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), who has supported the committee’s probe. “It’s about whether the American people were deceived by an administration propping up a man who wasn’t capable of leading.”
One Democrat Shows Up — And Defends the Silence
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), the lone Democrat to attend the interview, dismissed the investigation as a witch hunt.
“The Fifth doesn’t mean guilt,” she insisted. “We’re dealing with a politically motivated committee and a DOJ that’s running its own criminal investigation. His lawyers were right to advise caution.”
Crockett also suggested that the Trump Justice Department is pursuing charges against the doctor — a claim the committee has yet to confirm or deny.
The Bigger Picture: A Pattern of Dodging?
This isn’t the first sign of obstruction. Earlier this year, former Biden staff secretary Neera Tanden also faced questions from the Oversight Committee about the administration’s internal memos discussing Biden’s mental sharpness and public missteps. More staff are expected to be called in the coming weeks.
According to one committee source, the probe has uncovered internal communications raising serious concerns about the president’s cognition — some as early as mid-2023, when Biden was still publicly claiming to be “fit and sharp.”
“We’ve got aides on record saying they were scared he wouldn’t make it to the end of his term,” the source revealed. “They were talking about ‘managing optics.’ This wasn’t care — it was damage control.”
Comer Vows to Press On
Despite O’Connor’s silence, the committee isn’t backing down.
“This is just the beginning,” Comer said. “We will get to the truth, and we will hold people accountable for misleading the American people.”
O’Connor’s team has requested that the investigation be paused due to the alleged DOJ probe. Comer says that’s not going to happen.
“The American public deserves answers. They deserve transparency. And they deserve a president who’s actually fit to lead.”
President Trump has not publicly commented on Wednesday’s interview — but aides say he’s closely monitoring the investigation, which some have dubbed the “Biden Fitness Cover-Up.”
As one senior GOP aide put it bluntly: “If there was nothing to hide, the doctor would’ve talked.”

First this isn’t “Trump’s Oversight Committee!” I’d expect better reporting here than nextgennews! It’s a congressional oversight committee doing their jobs!
