“This isn’t art. This is demonic.”
Hollywood has crossed yet another red line, and this time it’s not just pushing woke politics—it’s mocking the Son of God.
Outrage erupted across America this weekend after footage emerged from a three-night spectacle at the Hollywood Bowl, where British actress and LGBT activist Cynthia Erivo took center stage as Jesus Christ in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s controversial rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.
Erivo, a self-proclaimed “queer” performer and Black Lives Matter supporter, appeared on stage carrying a crossbeam, donning a crown of thorns, and—according to furious critics—looking more like a demon than the Savior.
“This is blasphemy, plain and simple,” said Christian actor Kevin Sorbo, who posted a clip of the performance on X (formerly Twitter). “They’re not pushing boundaries—they’re mocking God.”
And Sorbo isn’t alone.
The left-wing production also cast Adam Lambert, an openly gay pop singer who once described his faith as “Aquarius,” as Judas Iscariot. Lambert appeared to revel in the outrage, telling Billboard, “I’m excited by the challenge… shouldn’t the teachings of Jesus transcend gender?”
Conservative Americans strongly disagree.
“This isn’t an artistic reinterpretation,” said Sean Davis, CEO of The Federalist. “This is a calculated slap in the face to Christians.”
Davis also pointed out Erivo’s resemblance to the ghoulish Nosferatu character from the 1922 German horror film—“bald, claw-like nails, and an intentionally inhuman aesthetic,” he said. “Hollywood knows what it’s doing.”
Conservative radio host Christopher Calvin Reid didn’t mince words, calling the performance a “vile assault on Christian doctrine.”
“Jesus Christ was a man,” Reid said during his Alabama broadcast. “Not a symbol for progressive fantasies. Not a genderless figure for Hollywood virtue signaling.”
He continued: “This is the cultural Marxist Left spitting on the cross and demanding applause for it. If you mock Christ, don’t pretend it’s about ‘tolerance.’”
Critics also noted a disturbing double standard. Bo French, Republican Party Chair in Texas’ Tarrant County, said it best:
“You’ll never see the elites in Hollywood mock Islam the way they mock Christians. Christianity is the only acceptable target for their ideological warfare.”
Veteran journalist Lara Logan called the show “pathetic” and “desperate.”
“They know they’re losing,” Logan posted. “They resort to this kind of evil performance because they’ve run out of real influence. It’s weak.”
Erivo, known for her upcoming role in the film adaptation of Wicked, once attended a Roman Catholic school in London but now embraces full-fledged LGBTQ activism. In a 2024 interview with Elle magazine, she brushed off criticism from Christians, saying, “I don’t let narrow thinking define my faith.”
Critics say that attitude was on full display during the performance.
“This isn’t a reinterpretation of Jesus,” said Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America. “It’s a grotesque parody, dressed up in fake empowerment and demonic imagery. She looks exactly like what demons have always been portrayed as.”
Jesus Christ Superstar has faced criticism since it first hit Broadway in 1971—mainly due to its sympathetic portrayal of Judas, its lack of a Resurrection, and its vague, ambiguous take on Jesus’ divinity.
But this 2025 Hollywood Bowl production may be its most openly hostile version yet.
As President Donald J. Trump leads his second term focused on restoring traditional values and defending religious freedom, this latest attack from the entertainment industry has ignited renewed calls for accountability—and for Christians to speak up.
“This is a cultural line in the sand,” said one pastor outside Dallas. “They’re daring Christians to stay silent. We won’t.”
Hollywood elites aren’t just rewriting Scripture—they’re weaponizing it. And this time, they’ve gone too far.
