Baseball Star Rushed to Hospital After ‘Flying’ into Scoreboard (Video)

Los Angeles Angels star Taylor Ward endured a terrifying moment on Sunday after a violent collision with the metal scoreboard left him bloodied, stunned, and rushed to the hospital — sparking outrage across Major League Baseball.

The eighth inning at Houston’s Daikin Park turned horrifying when Ward sprinted full speed toward the wall, chasing a double off Ramon Urias’ bat. In a split second, the outfielder slammed face-first into the stadium’s metal scoreboard with a sickening impact that silenced the crowd. Witnesses described the sound as “brutal,” and players immediately motioned for help.

Bleeding heavily from a deep cut above his right eye, Ward staggered to his feet and signaled to the dugout before collapsing to his knees. A bullpen staffer rushed over with a towel, which Ward pressed against his face while teammates and trainers surrounded him in shock.

Angels medical staff and paramedics tended to Ward in the outfield before carefully loading him onto a cart. Visibly shaken, he leaned on a team employee’s shoulder as he was taken off the field, fans applauding in support. Moments later, he was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Interim manager Ray Montgomery confirmed Ward needed stitches and further evaluation. “Obviously, he hit the wall pretty good,” Montgomery said grimly. “He’s got a cut above his eye, and we’ll know more once the doctors finish their tests.”

After the game, tensions boiled over. Angels outfielder Jo Adell blasted the Astros for allowing a metal scoreboard in play, calling it a “ticking time bomb” for player safety.

“There should be no out-of-town metal scoreboard anywhere on a baseball field,” Adell fumed. “It’s the big leagues. This s*** is ridiculous. A guy goes all out to make a play and ends up getting wrecked by a piece of stadium equipment. That’s crazy.”

Adell’s comments have reignited debates over player safety in MLB stadiums, with critics demanding that Houston make immediate changes to its outfield design.

As of Sunday night, Ward remained hospitalized for evaluation. While early reports suggest no major fractures, there’s still concern about a possible concussion. The Angels have not provided a timeline for his return.

The frightening incident comes at a critical point in the season, with the Angels fighting to stay in playoff contention. Losing Ward — one of their most consistent hitters and outfielders — would be a massive blow.
