TV Star Arrested at U.S.-Mexico Border in Shocking Bust

TV actor Darius McCrary — best known for his role as Eddie Winslow on the classic 1990s sitcom Family Matters — has been arrested near the U.S.-Mexico border in what authorities describe as a felony fugitive case.

The 48-year-old actor was taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol agents on October 5 and is currently being held in a San Diego jail without eligibility for bail, according to official arrest records reviewed by Fox News Digital.

McCrary’s representative, Ann Barlow, told Fox News Digital that the actor’s arrest occurred during what she described as a “good deed gone wrong.”

“Darius was picked up at the border because he was partnering with a real estate developer to build homes for the homeless in Tijuana,” Barlow said. “He had no idea there was a warrant. It turns out it was for a missed court date in Michigan related to a child support case.”

Barlow claims the court summons was mailed to McCrary’s P.O. box with only three days’ notice and that the actor was recovering from COVID at the time. “He contacted the judge immediately with a doctor’s note,” she added.

McCrary is due back in court on October 15, when a California judge will determine whether he’ll be extradited to Michigan to face his outstanding charges.

The actor’s legal troubles stretch back several years. His ex-wife, former Gladiators star Tammy Brawner, filed for divorce in 2017, citing fears for the safety of their then-3-year-old daughter. In 2019, Brawner was awarded full custody, while McCrary was ordered to attend substance abuse and anger management programs and pay $1,366 per month in child support.

Court filings obtained by TMZ at the time included disturbing allegations — including a claim that McCrary once held his infant daughter over a hot stove. McCrary publicly denied the accusations, calling them “completely false” and saying, “I would never do anything to harm my child.”

McCrary rose to fame in the early 1990s as the wisecracking eldest Winslow child on Family Matters, appearing alongside Jaleel White’s iconic Steve Urkel character. He later took on roles in The Young and the Restless, Saw VI, and Christmas in Carolina, though his career has slowed in recent years amid mounting legal and financial troubles.

The actor was last seen on the red carpet at the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards in June 2025, appearing upbeat and speaking about “second chances” in Hollywood. “I’m just trying to build something positive again,” McCrary told an interviewer at the event. “I’ve made mistakes, but I’m still here.”

Now, that optimism has turned into yet another legal battle — one that could determine not just his freedom, but what’s left of his reputation.
