Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi raised eyebrows—and triggered a wave of online mockery—after bizarrely adopting a Southern accent during a Harvard speech on religious voters.
The California Democrat, now 85 years old and long criticized for being out of touch, slipped into a drawl while blasting what she called “hypocritical people of faith.”
“You’re people of faith? You go to Church on Sunday and pray in Church on Sunday, and prey on people the rest of the week? What is this?” Pelosi quipped, adding a theatrical twang that left the Ivy League audience squirming with awkward laughter.
The moment quickly went viral online, with some users comparing the performance to Hillary Clinton’s infamous accent-switching habits on the campaign trail.
“Hillary told Nancy that people like fake accents and that they’re easily fooled,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Another jabbed at Pelosi’s advanced age and influence in the Democratic Party’s leadership shakeups:
“Someone needs to have the Biden chat with her!”
Others were more blunt:
“She’s probably just trying to keep her dentures from flying out.”
Pelosi’s criticism of religious conservatives comes as Democrats continue to struggle with faith-based voters—many of whom helped sweep President Donald J. Trump back into office in 2024 with record support from evangelicals and Catholics alike.
While Pelosi has often touted her Catholic roots, critics argue her political career has been marked by attacks on traditional religious values.
“Nancy Pelosi pretending to be Southern while trashing Christians at Harvard perfectly sums up how Democrats see middle America,” said conservative commentator Tomi Lahren. “It’s elitist, performative, and insulting.”
In response to the backlash, Pelosi’s team sent the Daily Mail a Wikipedia link to the “Baltimore accent”—a bizarre explanation given that Pelosi was clearly mimicking a Deep South twang, not a Mid-Atlantic dialect.
Pelosi’s appearance comes just months after a serious fall in Europe left her sidelined and using a walker.
In December 2024, while on a bipartisan trip to Luxembourg, the former speaker tumbled down a marble staircase with no railing. Congressman Mike McCaul (R-TX), who witnessed the fall, said she lost her balance on stilettos and had to be rushed to the hospital.
“She went down hard. I helped her up, and five minutes later we were taking photos. But she was hurting,” McCaul told reporters.
Pelosi was flown to Germany for hip replacement surgery and remained out of the public eye for several weeks, skipping key votes and appearances. When she returned to the House floor, aides had to escort her through the chamber.
As Trump’s second term kicks into high gear, the Democrats’ aging leadership continues to draw criticism for clinging to power while the party struggles to unite behind a post-Biden identity.
Pelosi, who played a behind-the-scenes role in pressuring Biden to drop out of the 2024 race, has remained active despite health setbacks, showing up in public with the help of aides and trading in her signature heels for orthopedic flats.
“Pelosi can barely walk without assistance, but she’s still out here scolding the faithful with a fake accent,” said Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). “It’s time for her to retire—for real this time.”
The incident at Harvard is just the latest example of a Democratic Party that appears more focused on lecturing Americans than listening to them.
In the words of one viral meme:
“They mock your faith, fake your accent, and still wonder why they lost the heartland.”
With Trump back in the White House and Republicans gaining momentum heading into 2026, Pelosi’s Southern slip-up may prove yet another symbol of a party tone-deaf to the voters it desperately needs to win back.

Pelosi is a fraud, a cheat, a liar, a charlatan, and a truly evil person. She is the embodiment of Satan and hopefully the world will never soon rid of her!
