Hollywood liberal Debra Messing is under intense fire after sharing a meme on Election Day branding newly elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as a “jihadist” and “communist.” The Will & Grace actress, known for her fierce anti-Trump views, posted the controversial image to her Instagram stories—just hours before polls closed in one of the most hotly contested mayoral races in NYC history.
The post triggered a social media frenzy, with users mocking Messing’s apparent emotional breakdown and raising fresh questions about the influence of elite celebrities on American politics.
Messing, 57, reposted a meme from right-leaning Instagram account The Persian Jewess, showing two voting options:
- “A Democrat. Just a Democrat.”
- “An actual communist jihadist. A literal Karl Marx-quoting, America-hating jihadist.”
Though Mamdani wasn’t named outright, the implication was crystal clear.
“Make the right choice,” the caption urged, endorsing former Governor Andrew Cuomo—who ran as an Independent after being defeated by Mamdani in the Democratic primary.
Cuomo, once disgraced by scandal, staged a political comeback in the general election with backing from President Donald Trump, who slammed Mamdani on Truth Social as “a radical Marxist puppet who wants to defund the NYPD and destroy the city from within.”
Messing has long used her social platforms to bash conservatives, but this time her rhetoric spiraled. On October 25, the actress declared she had voted early—for Cuomo.
“We need someone with experience to bring our city back to what it should be—safe, the thriving financial center of the world,” Messing wrote. “More low-cost housing. More police to make our streets and subways safe.”
In one particularly raw line, she said:
“A social worker cannot help someone who is stabbed in the subway.”
She attacked Mamdani as “33 years old,” “never held a real job,” and accused him of missing “80% of his votes as Councilman.”
Despite the celebrity attacks, Mamdani, 34, clinched a stunning victory. In his victory speech Tuesday night, he called on New Yorkers to “turn the page on a politics that abandons the many and answers only to the few.”
“Tonight you have delivered a mandate for change,” Mamdani said. “A mandate for a city we can afford. A mandate for a government that delivers exactly that.”
Mamdani is now set to become New York’s first Muslim and Indian American mayor, and the youngest to hold the office in over 100 years.
He will take office on January 1, 2026.
Messing’s social media meltdown didn’t go unnoticed.
“She posted 91 Instagram stories in 24 hours. Not an exaggeration,” one user said, adding, “Zohran actually broke her brain.”
Others were even harsher:
- “The Debra Messing meltdown is in full swing. An embarrassing loser.”
- “Reminder that Megan Mullally was always the funniest on Will & Grace. Debra is a psychotic loser.”
- “This is fascinating and scary to watch.”
The original meme post has since disappeared—but screenshots are circulating widely.
Messing’s Election Day rant is just the latest example of Hollywood progressives overstepping their lane—and alienating everyday Americans. As President Trump’s administration continues to push back against radical progressivism in major cities, NYC may become ground zero for a new ideological battle over law, order, and the soul of America’s urban centers.
While Mamdani prepares to take office, conservatives are already sounding alarms about what’s to come.
And Debra Messing? She may have just lost the plot—and half her fanbase.
