Congressman to be Replaced by Identical Twin Brother?

In a political handoff that could only happen in Texas, Representative Troy Nehls has announced he will not seek re-election — and his identical twin brother, Trever Nehls, is stepping in to take his place.

Troy, a three-term Republican and vocal ally of President Donald Trump, revealed the decision after what he described as “heartfelt Thanksgiving conversations” with his family. “It’s time to go home,” he wrote, thanking his wife Jill, an educator, and their three daughters.

But this isn’t the end of the Nehls legacy — it’s a family continuation.

“I am endorsing my brother, Trever, to succeed me in Congress because I trust him, I believe in him, and I know he will fight every single day for the people of this district,” Troy declared on social media. “He won’t need on-the-job training; he’s ready now.”

The announcement came as the Republican Party braces for a volatile 2026 midterm season, with razor-thin margins in the House and deep divisions between Trump loyalists and establishment conservatives.

Troy Nehls, a member of the House Judiciary and Transportation Committees — and a founding member of the so-called “Anti-Woke Caucus” — has been a fiery defender of Trump’s immigration and border policies. His identical twin Trever has often followed his path — literally.

Trever succeeded Troy twice before: once as constable of Fort Bend County in 2013, and again as sheriff in 2020. Both brothers also share a military pedigree, having served in the Army Reserve — with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“I want to thank my brother for his decades of service in the military and law enforcement,” Trever said in his campaign launch post on Facebook. “Troy has always led with integrity, courage, and a relentless commitment to public safety.”

Both Nehls brothers have built reputations as unapologetic Trump supporters. In his endorsement, Troy hinted that the former president may soon back Trever as well. “After my call with President Trump, I am confident Trever will earn his endorsement,” Troy said.

Trever’s campaign message left little doubt about his platform. “District 22 needs a representative who will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with President Trump,” he wrote. “I’ll defend conservative values, secure our borders, and oppose the reckless and radical agenda that Democrats continue to press upon the American people.”

The Texas 22nd District, which includes parts of Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Harris Counties, has been reliably red but increasingly competitive — making the Nehls brothers’ name recognition a major asset.

Political analyst Brian Phillips told Your News Site the move was “smart, calculated, and deeply Texan.”

“The Nehls brothers are household names in Fort Bend. Trever’s entry guarantees Republicans avoid a messy primary fight while keeping the Trump base energized,” Phillips said.

Troy Nehls’s retirement adds his name to a growing list of lawmakers heading for the exits ahead of 2026 — including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who recently announced she’ll leave office early after her feud with Trump turned public, and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who confirmed she will not run again.

With Republicans holding a fragile 219-213 House majority, every district is now a battleground. Both parties are racing to redraw congressional maps that could shift control of the chamber.

Historically, the party out of power — in this case, the Democrats — performs better in midterms. But with Trump back in the White House, the 2026 cycle could defy precedent.

Candidates for Texas’s 22nd District have until December 8 to file for the race. The primary is scheduled for March 3, 2026, with the general election on November 3, 2026.

If Trever wins, he’ll not only continue his brother’s political legacy — he’ll cement the Nehls family as one of Texas’s rare twin dynasties in Washington.

“District 22 knows me,” Trever said in his launch statement. “And I know this district. I’m ready to take up that fight.”
