Another Royal Linked to Jeffrey Epstein?

A new scandal has shaken European royalty after Sweden’s Princess Sofia was revealed to have met Jeffrey Epstein several times in 2005 — years before she married Prince Carl-Philip. The Swedish Royal Court confirmed the meetings, saying the princess was “introduced to the person in question on a few occasions.”

The revelation, first reported by Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter, comes after a batch of leaked emails showed Epstein personally invited the then–21-year-old Sofia Hellqvist to his private island in the Caribbean. The island later became notorious as the center of his sex trafficking network involving underage girls and powerful men.

In one email, Sofia’s former mentor, Swedish businesswoman Barbro Ehnbom, wrote to Epstein introducing her young protégé. “This is Sofia, an aspiring actress who just arrived in New York,” she said. “She’s the girl I told you about before I left, who I thought you might like to meet.” Epstein replied, “I’m in the Caribbean. Does she want to come for a couple of days? I’ll send a ticket.”

The palace has since clarified that Sofia never traveled to Epstein’s island and cut off all contact with him shortly after being introduced. A spokesperson said the princess “has not had any contact with the person in question for 20 years.”

At the time, Sofia was far from royal life. She was a young model and reality TV star trying to make it in New York City. Known then as Sofia Hellqvist, she had gained attention in Sweden for posing topless for Slitz magazine and appearing on the dating show Paradise Hotel. Her bold personality and nightlife adventures often made headlines.

In her personal blog from that era, Sofia wrote candidly about her new life in America. “To be a woman in NY is an advantage,” she said. “Here the men aim to please.” In another post, she described meeting actor Mark Wahlberg at a party, calling him “calm and laid-back” while she and her friends “sang karaoke and danced on the sofas.”

Sofia’s life changed dramatically a few years later when she met Prince Carl-Philip at a nightclub in Stockholm in 2009. The couple married in a royal wedding six years later and are now parents to four children. Over time, the once-controversial model has become one of Sweden’s most popular royals.

She’s spent the last decade working on charitable projects and even volunteered as a hospital assistant during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. “People had comments on everything — what I did, how I looked,” Sofia once said in a 2013 interview. “But I’ve learned to focus on what really matters.”

Epstein, who died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, left behind a global trail of connections to the wealthy and powerful. The revelation of his brief contact with Sofia shows how wide that circle once stretched — even reaching into royal palaces.

A Swedish royal insider told Expressen, “This isn’t a scandal of her making, but it’s a reminder of how dangerous proximity to power can be. Sofia was young and ambitious, and Epstein preyed on exactly that.”

  1. So what’s newsworthy about this. Epstein met with tons of people all the time. What we, the public, want to know is the names of those that traveled over to his little island. We couldn’t care less about his casual contact with people elsewhere.
