3 Inmates Slaughtered, 13 Hurt After Georgia Prison Visitation Turns into Bloodbath

A Sunday afternoon meant for family visits erupted into pure terror inside a Georgia prison, leaving three inmates dead and more than a dozen people injured in one of the most violent outbreaks the state has seen in years.

The chaos began around 2 p.m. inside Washington State Prison in Davisboro. Within seconds, the visiting area—usually one of the safest spaces in the building—became a battlefield.

“There were bodies on the ground. People were screaming. It was like a war zone,” one law enforcement source told us under condition of anonymity.

Davisboro Police Chief Leondus Dixon said the first fight broke out while families watched helplessly.

“Children were in that room,” Dixon said. “You could hear the panic through the walls.”

But it didn’t stop there.

Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran confirmed the violence spread like wildfire.

“It wasn’t just one fight,” Cochran said. “It was several. All happening at once. Our guys walked into absolute hell.”

By the time officers forced the inmates apart, three prisoners were deadTwelve inmates and one correctional officerwere left bleeding, bruised, or carried out on stretchers.

The Georgia Department of Corrections said only that the prison was “brought under control” and all inmates were accounted for. No word on why the brawls started. No updates on who’s fighting for their life.

Families waited outside the gates begging for answers.

“We just want to know if our son is alive,” one mother said through tears. “Nobody will tell us anything.”

Washington State Prison has a brutal reputation. Overcrowding. Contraband. Not enough guards. A history of inmate stabbings and gang-related assaults.

“This place is a powder keg,” said a former corrections officer. “All it takes is one spark.”

On Sunday, that spark ignited.

Investigators are now reviewing hours of surveillance video and interviewing frightened visitors who never imagined they’d witness a prison riot up close.

Sheriff Cochran says accountability will come.

“We are going to find out who started this,” he said. “And we will make sure they answer for it.”

But for now, the prison remains locked down, the families remain in limbo, and three men will never walk out again.
