Woman’s Body Found Near Phoenix Canal Amid Nancy Guthrie Search

A disturbing discovery in Phoenix has raised new questions in the ongoing search for the missing mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.

Police confirmed that a woman’s body was found Friday along the bank of a canal in Phoenix, Arizona. Authorities responded after receiving a call about an unresponsive adult female lying near the water.

“When officers arrived, they located the woman and she was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Phoenix police said in a statement.

Officials have not yet released the woman’s identity. Investigators are now working to determine how she died and whether foul play was involved.

The discovery immediately sparked speculation online because it came just weeks after the mysterious disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of the NBC host.

Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Tucson-area home on the night of January 31. Her disappearance quickly became a national story after her daughter publicly pleaded for help and offered a staggering $1 million reward for information.

Despite the proximity within the same state, investigators say there is currently no confirmed link between the two cases.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said they have not received any indication that the Phoenix discovery is connected to the missing-person investigation.

Still, the timing has intensified public interest in the case.

Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie may have been abducted from her home. Investigators recovered troubling evidence inside the house, including traces of blood that are still being analyzed.

Security footage from a doorbell camera also revealed a masked man — possibly two different individuals — lingering near the property shortly before she vanished.

Sheriff Chris Nanos said the amount of evidence collected is massive and will take significant time to process.

“We have a large volume of material that must go through forensic testing,” Nanos said, warning that DNA analysis alone could take up to a year.

The investigation remains one of the largest ongoing searches in Arizona. Officials say between 300 and 400 personnel are still assigned to the case weeks after the disappearance.

Savannah Guthrie and her siblings, Annie and Camron, have continued to make emotional public appeals for their mother’s safe return.

In a video message shared online shortly after Nancy vanished, the siblings spoke directly to anyone who might know what happened.

“We just want our mom back,” Savannah said. “If anyone has information, please come forward.”

For now, the Phoenix canal death adds another layer of uncertainty to a case already filled with unanswered questions.

Police say identifying the woman found near the canal is now a top priority. Investigators stress that until that happens, any connection to the Guthrie case remains purely speculation.

Meanwhile, the search for Nancy Guthrie continues.

  1. Just a rumor of course, but I’ve heard that the search for Nancy Guthrie is being considered to be the replacement for the Oak Island series. Easy now, don’t get rash. I said that it’s just something I recently heard. And it is actually moving along at about the same speed.
