Elizabeth Warren Endorses Democrat with ‘Nazi’ Tattoo

A political firestorm is erupting in 2026—and this time, it’s hitting Elizabeth Warren from both sides.

The Massachusetts Democrat is now under intense scrutiny after endorsing a controversial Senate candidate with a past tied to a symbol resembling Nazi imagery—despite previously attacking a Trump cabinet official over his Christian tattoos.

Warren, 76, announced her support for Maine Democrat Graham Platner, a progressive challenger vying for his party’s nomination in a high-stakes race.

Her endorsement raised eyebrows immediately.

Platner, 41, had been facing backlash over a tattoo that critics say closely resembled insignia linked to Adolf Hitler’s infamous SS forces. The symbol has long been associated with one of the most brutal regimes in modern history.

Still, Warren brushed aside the controversy.

“He’s out there talking to the people of Maine every single day,” she said in a recent interview. “We need more people willing to fight for working families.”

She added she was “proud” to support him.

That tone is a far cry from Warren’s stance just a year earlier.

During the confirmation battle for Pete Hegseth—now serving under President Donald Trump—Warren launched a fierce campaign questioning his fitness for office.

At the center of her concerns: his tattoos.

In a lengthy letter, Warren warned that Hegseth’s “Deus vult” tattoo—Latin for “God wills it”—could be seen as a symbol tied to “right-wing extremism.” She even cited concerns raised by a National Guard official who flagged the imagery.

“We cannot have a defense secretary whose fellow service members feel concerned enough to report as a potential insider threat,” Warren wrote at the time.

Hegseth fired back during his hearing.

“The Jerusalem Cross is a Christian symbol,” he said. “It was even featured at a national cathedral event honoring former President Jimmy Carter.”

The contrast is now fueling accusations of political hypocrisy.

Platner has tried to explain away the controversy.

He claims he got the tattoo during a drunken night in Croatia and didn’t understand its meaning at the time. After backlash intensified, he covered it with a new design last fall.

“I regret it,” Platner said previously. “I didn’t know what it represented.”

But critics aren’t buying it.

A campaign ad released by Maine Governor Janet Mills—also running in the Democratic primary—has already racked up over a million views online.

“The closer you look, the worse it gets,” a narrator says, as the ad zooms in on the tattoo.

The tattoo isn’t the only issue dogging Platner.

Old Reddit posts tied to the candidate have resurfaced—and they’re sparking outrage.

In one, Platner appeared to blame women for sexual assault scenarios, writing they should not “get so messed up they wind up having sex with someone they don’t mean to.”

In another, he made comments about racial tipping stereotypes and mocked U.S. military spending overseas.

Women featured in Mills’ campaign ad slammed the remarks as “disgusting” and “disqualifying.”

Platner has since apologized, attributing the posts to a dark period after his military service.

“I was dealing with PTSD and depression,” he said, adding that his language reflected the “dark humor” common among infantry soldiers.

The controversy comes at a critical moment.

The Maine Senate race could play a key role in determining control of Congress as President Trump pushes his second-term agenda. Incumbent Republican Susan Collins remains a formidable opponent, and Democrats are scrambling to find a candidate who can compete statewide.

Warren’s endorsement was meant to boost Platner’s credibility.

Instead, it may have handed Republicans a powerful talking point.

For critics, the issue isn’t just about one candidate.

It’s about what they see as a broader pattern.

They argue that symbols tied to Christianity are quickly labeled “extreme” by Democrats, while far more troubling imagery gets a pass when it comes from their own side.

Whether voters agree could decide more than just one race.

It could shape the balance of power in Washington—and test how far Americans are willing to tolerate political double standards in 2026.
