Planet Fitness Worker Stabbed After Kicking Out Member for Not Paying

A routine gym dispute exploded into violence Thursday afternoon when a man allegedly stabbed a Planet Fitness employee multiple times after being kicked out over unpaid membership bills, authorities say.

Davier Massey, 28, is now facing attempted murder charges following the shocking attack at a Philadelphia-area gym that left a worker fighting for his life.

According to Cheltenham Township Police, officers rushed to the fitness center around 12:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found a male employee suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was immediately transported to a nearby trauma center with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say the violent encounter didn’t come out of nowhere.

Massey had reportedly been banned from the gym prior to the incident—but allegedly returned the very next day, not once but twice, causing disturbances both times. During his second visit, things escalated fast.

Police say a confrontation broke out between Massey and the employee, turning physical before the suspect allegedly pulled out a weapon and stabbed the worker multiple times.

Officers quickly tracked Massey down and arrested him a short distance away from the gym.

He’s now facing a long list of serious charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, and recklessly endangering another person. Additional charges include making terroristic threats, harassment, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief.

Massey is currently being held without bail at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility as he awaits further court proceedings.

In a statement, Planet Fitness said it was “saddened” by the violent incident and confirmed that the injured employee is receiving support.

“Our thoughts are with the team member as they recover,” the company said. “We appreciate local law enforcement’s quick action.”

As the victim continues to recover, the case is raising new concerns about workplace safety—and how quickly everyday confrontations can spiral into near-fatal violence.
