Elderly Couple and Dog Found Dead at Home

An eerie silence inside a quiet Ohio neighborhood ended in tragedy after a concerned relative made a call that would uncover a heartbreaking and deeply unsettling scene.

Authorities in Liberty Township, a suburb outside Cincinnati, confirmed that an elderly couple was found dead inside their home in what investigators are calling a murder-suicide — a case that has left neighbors shaken and searching for answers.

The grim discovery unfolded after a family member, alarmed by several days of no contact, requested a welfare check at the couple’s home on Hidden Oaks Lane. When deputies arrived, they found the couple’s vehicle still parked in the garage — a troubling sign that something wasn’t right.

What they found inside was devastating.

According to the Butler County Coroner’s Office, Frederick Buckley, 70, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while his wife, Claire Buckley, 72, was killed by a gunshot wound inside the home. Deputies located Frederick on the floor, while Claire was found on the couch.

But the tragedy didn’t end there.

Officials also discovered the couple’s beloved dog dead in the living room — adding another layer of heartbreak to an already disturbing scene.

Neighbors say the couple had lived in the area for more than a decade and were known as kind, friendly, and devoted to their family — and especially to their dog, Luna.

“It makes zero sense,” one neighbor said, still visibly shaken. “Very nice people, always had something kind to say.”

The neighbor recalled hearing the couple just days earlier, laughing in their backyard as they played with their dog — tossing a ball and enjoying what seemed like an ordinary, happy moment.

“They got total joy out of that dog,” she added. “They were laughing out loud.”

Friends and neighbors also revealed the couple had recently been splitting time between Liberty Township and a newly built home in Columbus, where they were settling into a fresh chapter of life. Claire had even spoken recently about decorating and making the new house feel like home — and seemed, by all accounts, happy.

“This is completely out of character,” another neighbor said. “You just keep asking yourself… why?”

Investigators have not released further details about what may have led to the tragic incident, and the case remains under investigation.

For a neighborhood that once saw the couple as pillars of warmth and normalcy, the shocking turn of events has left a lasting sense of disbelief — and a haunting reminder that sometimes, the darkest moments unfold behind the most ordinary doors.
