The mystery surrounding Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother has taken an even darker turn.
Just as Savannah made her emotional return to the Today show, a disturbing new ransom letter surfaced claiming to reveal the location of Nancy Guthrie’s body — and the identity of the person responsible for her disappearance.
The chilling message has sent fresh shockwaves through a case that has already gripped the public for months.
According to reports, two new ransom notes were recently received, both allegedly sent by the same anonymous person who previously demanded one bitcoin in exchange for information about Nancy’s disappearance. This time, the message was even more terrifying.
One of the notes reportedly stated, “I know where her body is, and who the kidnapper is,” before demanding half a bitcoin for the information. The writer also allegedly claimed, “She is dead,” then said another half bitcoin would be required once an arrest is made public.
The latest message appears to raise the stakes in an already haunting investigation. The anonymous sender reportedly lashed out at authorities for dismissing the earlier note as a scam, claiming law enforcement ignored information that could have cracked the case wide open.
In one message, the writer allegedly fumed that millions had been wasted while they had been offering answers since February 11 in exchange for payment. The sender insisted they were not involved in the crime itself, but accused investigators of arrogance for refusing to take the claims seriously.
The writer also claimed the money was not about greed, but about securing a quiet future without needing witness protection. Whether the person has any real connection to the case remains unclear, but the content of the letters has added a disturbing new layer to the mystery.
The timing could not have been more emotional.
On Monday, April 6, Savannah returned to Today for the first time since her mother’s disappearance. Standing outside Rockefeller Plaza with her co-hosts, she was greeted by hundreds of supporters holding yellow ribbons as a symbol of hope.
Fighting back tears, Savannah thanked the crowd for their support and said the kindness shown to her family had meant everything during the nightmare. At one point, she wiped her eyes with Al Roker’s handkerchief while standing arm-in-arm with Jenna Bush Hager in a moment that left many viewers emotional.
Despite the heartbreak hanging over her family, Savannah stepped back into her role on air and told viewers it was good to be home.
But behind that brave return is a family still trapped in agony.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on February 1, and despite surveillance footage showing an apparent abductor, no sign of her has been found. No arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved more than three months later.
As the investigation drags on, criticism has only intensified around Sheriff Chris Nanos and his handling of the case. Questions have continued to swirl over the lack of progress, and some insiders have described the atmosphere surrounding the investigation as deeply embarrassing.
One source reportedly said morale inside the department has sunk to its lowest point, with frustration building over both the media response and the sheriff’s public handling of the case.
Earlier this year, Savannah made a heartbreaking plea directly to whoever took her mother, begging for Nancy to be returned so the family could finally have peace.
Now, with this chilling new ransom letter claiming Nancy is dead, the case has entered an even more horrifying chapter.
Whether the message is a cruel hoax or the breakthrough investigators have been desperately waiting for, one thing is certain: the anguish for Savannah and her family is far from over.
