Joe Biden quietly resurfaced this week at one of California’s most celebrity-packed restaurants, marking a rare public appearance as questions continue to swirl around his health and post-presidency plans.

The former president and wife Jill Biden were spotted dining at trendy Santa Monica hotspot Georgio Baldi, a favorite among Hollywood insiders and high-profile power players. According to onlookers, the dinner was far from a loud political affair. Instead, Biden appeared subdued for much of the evening as Jill reportedly carried most of the conversation.

Witnesses said the former commander in chief, who has been battling an aggressive stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis that spread to his bones, remained mostly quiet during the meal. But at one point, he briefly perked up to sing “Happy Birthday” to diners celebrating at a nearby table. Guests said he became slightly more talkative by dessert, though Jill was said to be the one doing most of the speaking throughout the evening.

Biden has rarely been seen in public in recent weeks. His last notable appearance came in early March, when he delivered a eulogy for civil rights figure Jesse Jackson in Chicago. Now, insiders say he and Jill are spending time on the West Coast as they begin laying the groundwork for their next chapter, including work tied to their foundation and plans for a future Biden Presidential Library.

The couple also reportedly spent Easter in Santa Ynez along California’s Central Coast, suggesting the former first family has been keeping a lower profile while still staying connected to allies and donors.

Jill Biden recently offered a sobering update on her husband’s condition while discussing her upcoming memoir. She acknowledged that because the cancer has spread to his bones, it will remain part of his life moving forward. At the same time, she said doctors believe he will still live out his natural life. Biden reportedly completed a round of radiation treatment back in October.

Even so, the image of the once-commanding president quietly sitting through dinner while others spoke around him is likely to fuel even more speculation about his condition, his stamina, and how history will remember a presidency that left the country sharply divided.
