Two people were killed Wednesday after a small plane crashed at an airport in southern Arizona, according to local officials.
Authorities said the aircraft went off the runway at Marana Regional Airport and burst into flames. Marana Mayor Jon Post confirmed the deadly crash.
City spokesperson Vic Hathaway said two people were on board the plane at the time of the accident. Their identities have not yet been released. Officials said no other injuries were reported, and no other aircraft were involved.
The Marana Police Department said in a news release that the crash remains under investigation.
The National Transportation Safety Board identified the aircraft as a Piper PA-32 and said it is leading the investigation into what caused the crash.
Marana is located about 20 miles northwest of Tucson
