Democrats’ Epstein Obsession Backfires as Their Abuses are Exposed

Democrats just cannot let the Jeffrey Epstein saga go — and critics say their latest push is looking less like a search for justice and more like a shameless political circus.

Even after First Lady Melania Trump directly addressed and forcefully rejected the latest round of online rumors tying her to the disgraced financier, the outrage machine did not slow down. If anything, it only got louder. Melania condemned the allegations and made clear where she stood, while also saying victims deserve to be heard — a comment that was quickly seized on by opponents eager to keep the fire burning.

But here’s the problem for Democrats and their media allies: for all the breathless headlines, wild insinuations, and endless hearings, they still have not produced proof to back up the sweeping claims they keep floating.

That has not stopped high-profile figures from being dragged into the spotlight. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on May 6, while Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is expected to appear on June 10. Their names, like many others, have surfaced somewhere in the mountain of Epstein-related records. But appearing in documents is not the same thing as being guilty of a crime — a distinction that often gets lost in the media frenzy.

Epstein was undeniably a monster, a convicted sex offender, and a man who built his power through wealth, influence, and access to elites. He surrounded himself with famous and powerful people from every corner of public life. That alone makes the story explosive. But critics of the current political spectacle argue that Democrats have turned that dark chapter into a convenient weapon, using guilt-by-association and innuendo to smear anyone they want in the public eye.

Some of the loudest voices pushing the scandal as something even bigger include Democratic Reps. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Ro Khanna of California, along with Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who has also helped fuel public suspicion. Yet despite all their dramatic rhetoric, opponents say they keep failing to deliver actual evidence of a broader criminal conspiracy.

To many conservatives, it is starting to feel like a sequel to Russiagate — only more bizarre, more desperate, and even less grounded in hard facts.

And at the center of it all, once again, is Donald Trump.

Critics say Democrats are still trying to tie Trump and his family to Epstein through insinuation, despite long-standing claims that Trump cut ties with Epstein decades ago. One newly released FBI document reportedly shows Trump encouraging law enforcement to investigate Epstein and even urging them to look into Ghislaine Maxwell, whom he allegedly described as “evil.”

That has not stopped political opponents from continuing to paint Trump as somehow central to a broader, sinister web of abuse and corruption. To conservatives, the strategy is painfully familiar: take a scandal, flood the airwaves with speculation, and hope the public stops caring whether the accusations are true.

Rep. Ted Lieu of California has been one of the most outspoken Democrats in the controversy, repeatedly elevating inflammatory claims in public settings. Raskin, meanwhile, has been accused by critics of keeping the drama alive by hinting that supposedly explosive information is still buried in redactions, while offering no concrete evidence that he has actually seen proof of new crimes.

Khanna also came under fire after naming several wealthy men as Epstein associates allegedly being shielded by the Trump Justice Department, only for critics to point out that the names appeared in a photo caption and did not prove direct involvement with Epstein’s crimes.

That disconnect is exactly why many on the right say this whole campaign has become less about accountability and more about political theater.

The outrage, they argue, conveniently fades when Democrats or their allies get too close to the story. Critics have pointed to past controversies involving Democratic figures and questioned why those episodes did not receive the same nonstop treatment from the media or from lawmakers suddenly eager to posture in front of cameras.

For many conservatives, this is what modern Democratic politics has become: an endless stream of accusations, media spectacles, and anti-Trump messaging with little substance underneath. Instead of offering solutions, they keep returning to scandal, outrage, and smear campaigns because it energizes their base and keeps the headlines moving.

And with more hearings on the way, Republicans are likely to argue that the country is about to see even more grandstanding, more selective outrage, and more attempts to weaponize one of the darkest scandals in recent memory for raw political gain.

At a time when Americans are facing real problems, critics say Democrats are once again betting that spectacle will beat substance.
