Elderly Passengers Attacked by ‘Naked’ Machete Maniac at Grand Central

A routine Saturday morning at New York City’s busiest transit hub exploded into sheer terror when a machete-wielding attacker went on a shocking rampage—slashing three elderly commuters before being gunned down by police inside Grand Central Terminal.

The chaos unfolded just before 10 a.m. on the packed 4, 5, 6 subway platform, where stunned riders suddenly found themselves running for their lives.

According to police, the suspect—identified as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin—launched an unprovoked attack, targeting vulnerable victims in a burst of violence that left blood splattered across the station floor. An 85-year-old man and a 65-year-old man suffered deep head wounds, while a 70-year-old woman was also slashed in the frenzy.

Horrifying scene photos showed one victim with his head wrapped in blood-soaked gauze as first responders rushed in.

Sources say two NYPD detectives working overtime for transit security quickly confronted Griffin and ordered him to drop the weapon. He refused.

Seconds later, gunfire rang out.

The suspect was shot three times and taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The three victims miraculously survived and are expected to recover.

Adding to the shock, witnesses claimed the attacker appeared to be naked during the rampage, though it remains unclear whether his clothing had been removed by emergency crews after the shooting.

Griffin wasn’t a stranger to law enforcement. Police sources revealed he had at least 13 prior arrests—including one involving a weapon—raising fresh questions about how he was back on the streets.

Terrified commuters described a scene straight out of a nightmare.

“I heard ‘Boom!’ and everyone dropped to the floor,” said Claudio Delgado, who had just arrived from Connecticut. “Police were yelling, ‘Get outta here fast!’ It’s scary. This is how New York City is now.”

Another shaken station worker recalled seeing paramedics desperately trying to revive the suspect. “You’re just standing there minding your business—and someone has a machete? It’s crazy,” he said.

Above ground, panic spread just as fast.

Jessica Munoz, who works near the station entrance, said crowds came pouring out onto the street in fear. “People were running. We didn’t know what was happening—just that there was a shooting downstairs. It’s terrifying.”
