Armed Man in Body Armor Sparks Terror Near Trump Golf Course

An armed man carrying a Joker-themed rifle, loaded handguns, and body armor set off a terrifying scare near President Donald Trump’s golf course in California after deputies say he fired a weapon to “get some anger out” and then ran into traffic.

The disturbing incident unfolded near Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, where authorities say 36-year-old Sean Steiner of Glendale, Arizona, was seen roaming the area with a duffel bag, a step stool, and a rifle before the situation turned dangerously chaotic. Witnesses reported spotting Steiner hiking near the property on March 29 before he allegedly bolted into traffic on Palos Verdes Drive South around 5 p.m., triggering an urgent law enforcement response.

When deputies confronted him, they found what they described as a semiautomatic rifle painted in green and purple like something straight out of a Batman nightmare. The weapon had an orange tip to resemble a toy gun and was scrawled with the taunting phrases “HA HA HA HA” and “Why so serious?” — the infamous line tied to the Joker character made famous by Heath Ledger.

But this was no costume prop.

Deputies said the rifle was fully loaded, with a round already in the chamber and a full magazine locked in place. Authorities also said Steiner admitted he had fired one of his pistols in a nearby brush area because he wanted to “get some anger out,” a chilling statement that only deepened fears about what could have happened next.

Investigators say Steiner was also wearing a ballistic vest capable of stopping rifle rounds, raising even more questions about what his true intentions may have been. Deputies reportedly recovered two loaded handguns, high-capacity magazines, and extra ammunition, turning what first sounded like a bizarre sighting into a full-blown public safety nightmare.

The fact that the armed suspect was roaming so close to a Trump property made the situation even more alarming, especially as security concerns surrounding the president and his properties remain extraordinarily high. Authorities have not said Steiner breached the golf course itself, but the proximity alone was enough to send shockwaves through the area.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department did not mince words, warning that this was an armed individual firing a weapon, moving through trails and traffic, and putting countless innocent people at risk in a populated area. Deputies also credited alert witnesses for stepping in before the situation turned even more deadly, driving home a message law enforcement has repeated for years: if you see something, say something.

Steiner is now facing multiple felony firearm charges. Jail records show he was booked on March 29 and later released on bond on April 1.

Public records tied to Steiner’s name and date of birth show a 2021 speeding case in Arizona. Records also indicate he previously lived in Wisconsin, where a man with the same name and birth date was convicted of a misdemeanor drunken driving offense in 2008.

As of Wednesday morning, Steiner had not commented publicly. But the explosive details already released by authorities have turned the case into a deeply unsettling new scare near one of President Trump’s properties — and a stark reminder of how fast a twisted armed encounter can spiral into potential tragedy.
