Democratic Senate Hopeful Hit with New Scandal Thanks to Wife

Graham Platner’s already turbulent Senate campaign has been rocked by another damaging revelation, this time involving his own marriage.

The wife of the Democratic Senate candidate from Maine reportedly told his campaign in 2025 that Platner had sent sexually explicit messages to other women.

Amy Gertner, who married Platner in November 2023, disclosed the texts during an internal vetting process at the start of his campaign, according to The Wall Street Journal.

In a statement released through the campaign, Gertner said the couple went through counseling and insisted their marriage is now “stronger than ever before.”

“I know the man I married and the husband he has been to me on the best and the worst days of my life. That hasn’t changed, and it won’t,” she said.

But Gertner also blasted the leak, saying she had shared “deeply personal details” with a campaign staffer and now feels betrayed.

“I trusted this person with the most private chapter of our lives,” she said, calling the disclosure an “invasion of our privacy.”

The controversy adds to a growing list of headaches for Platner, the presumptive Democratic nominee expected to face Republican Sen. Susan Collins in November.

Platner has already been under fire for past internet comments and a tattoo from his time in the Marines that critics said resembled a Nazi symbol. He later covered it up.

Despite the scandals, Platner has received backing from top progressives, including Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, while running as a working-class populist.

In an April interview with CBS News, Platner blamed some of his past controversial views on PTSD and his military service, describing the infantry as a “hyper-masculine, hyper-violent place.”

The Maine Senate race is expected to be one of the most closely watched contests of the midterms, with control of the chamber potentially hanging in the balance.

For Republicans, the latest revelation gives Collins’ allies fresh ammunition to paint Platner as a risky Democratic nominee carrying serious personal and political baggage.
