Shocking Home Explosion Caught on Doorbell Camera

A massive early-morning explosion ripped through an Ohio home on Thursday, leveling the property in seconds and sending two people flying from the blast in a scene neighbors described as sounding like a bomb or missile.

The terrifying explosion happened around 4 a.m. at a home in Canton, Ohio, and was captured on doorbell camera video. The footage showed the quiet residential street suddenly erupting in a blinding blast as the house was blown apart, scattering debris across the neighborhood.

Two people inside the home somehow survived, though both suffered severe burns and serious injuries, according to officials.

One victim was found in the street after being blasted from the structure. Fire officials said that person suffered burns over 80% of their body, along with traumatic injuries, and was rushed to a local hospital.

“Firefighters located one occupant in the street who had been blown from the structure by the blast,” officials said in a statement. “The individual sustained serious burns and traumatic injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.”

That victim told first responders another person had also been inside the home when the explosion happened.

Emergency crews immediately began searching the debris and surrounding area for the second person, but at first, they could not find anyone else. Then, nearly four and a half hours later, firefighters were called to a location several blocks away after reports of an adult male suffering from severe burns.

Officials said that second survivor was found about three-tenths of a mile from the explosion site. It remains unclear how he ended up so far from the destroyed home.

Both victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

The blast was so powerful that neighbors said it shook homes blocks away and rattled residences as far as two miles from the scene.

“It was a big boom like a bomb or missile was going off,” neighbor Victor Howell told WJW-TV. “It actually shattered some of my neighbor’s windows even and shook my whole house.”

The explosion left the home completely leveled and damaged several nearby properties. Fire officials said surrounding houses suffered varying degrees of fire and structural damage.

Debris was scattered throughout the neighborhood, power lines were knocked down, and utility crews were called to the scene to deal with electrical hazards. Emergency responders also had to navigate dangerous conditions caused by the wreckage and downed lines.

Photos from the scene showed heavy debris covering the area, damaged vehicles, and crews using heavy equipment to clear what remained of the home.

“Several homes in the surrounding area sustained varying degrees of fire and structural damage as a result of the explosion,” officials said.

“The explosion scattered debris throughout the neighborhood and brought down multiple power lines, creating additional hazards for emergency responders and residents,” the statement continued. “Utility companies were requested to the scene to address electrical hazards.”

Authorities have not yet said what caused the explosion. The incident remains under investigation.

  1. The house was supposed to be vacant, so what was going on inside by these two individuals? And if one of them was found blocks away from the blast, he was certainly on the run. He definitely didn’t get blown that far away and survived.
