Kamala Harris ‘Humiliated’ as Rising Star REJECTS Her

Kamala Harris just got an embarrassing reminder that her name may not be welcome everywhere on the campaign trail.

Mary Peltola, the former Democratic congresswoman now trying to flip Alaska’s U.S. Senate seat, is publicly distancing herself from support offered by the failed 2024 presidential candidate — insisting her campaign has no interest in chasing endorsements from national political figures.

“Mary isn’t seeking endorsements from anyone from the Lower 48 — her focus is and always will be Alaska,” a Peltola campaign spokesperson told The New York Times, according to multiple reports.

The unusually blunt response came after Harris’s political operation sent out a fundraising email promoting Peltola’s Senate bid.

“If there’s anyone who can flip Alaska and secure the Senate majority for Democrats — it’s Mary,” the email reportedly declared.

But there was one major problem: Peltola’s campaign says it never approved the message. Reports indicate the fundraising pitch sought contributions that would be split between Harris’s political organization and Peltola’s campaign.

For Republicans, the episode was practically gift-wrapped.

Harris lost Alaska decisively to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, with Trump carrying the state by roughly 13 points. Peltola, meanwhile, has spent years trying to cultivate a far more moderate, Alaska-first image than the national Democratic Party.

Now GOP operatives are trying to make sure voters remember the Harris connection.

National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Nick Puglia accused Peltola of working “hand in hand with Kamala Harris” during the Biden administration and argued that the former vice president’s support showed where Peltola’s political loyalties really lie.

Peltola served as Alaska’s sole member of the U.S. House from 2022 until 2025, meaning much of her tenure coincided with President Joe Biden and Harris occupying the White House.

But Peltola has repeatedly attempted to show Alaska voters that she is willing to break with national Democrats.

She notably declined to endorse Harris during the 2024 presidential campaign, even as Harris led the Democratic ticket. Peltola instead focused heavily on local issues and her reputation for bipartisanship.

That makes Harris’s unsolicited support particularly awkward.

Alaska state lawmaker Rebecca Himschoot, an independent, reportedly called the move “really dumb,” arguing that Harris appeared to be benefiting from Peltola’s political strength rather than helping her.

“She’s riding Mary Peltola’s coattails,” Himschoot told The Times, according to The Guardian.

The rejection comes as Peltola battles Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan in what has become a surprisingly competitive race.

Peltola entered the contest in January after Democrats spent months recruiting her as one of their strongest potential candidates in a state that normally favors Republicans. She previously made history as the first Alaska Native elected to Congress after winning a special House election in 2022.

Her political brand has never fit neatly into the national Democratic mold.

Peltola has emphasized Alaska-specific concerns including fishing, energy development and the high cost of living, while supporting some positions that place her closer to the political center than many Democrats in Washington.

That approach has also earned her unusual cross-party support in the past.

Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski backed Peltola during previous House campaigns, although Murkowski is supporting Sullivan in the current Senate contest.

Alaska’s election system adds another layer of unpredictability. Candidates from multiple parties compete in the same primary, with the top four advancing to the general election.

Peltola is among a crowded field seeking Sullivan’s seat ahead of the Aug. 18 primary.

Republicans are hoping Harris’s intervention gives them another opening to nationalize the race and portray Peltola as more closely connected to Washington Democrats than her campaign would like voters to believe.

Peltola’s team appears determined not to let that happen.

Rather than embracing the backing of the Democratic Party’s most recent presidential nominee, her campaign effectively told Harris and other national politicians to stay out of Alaska.

For a former vice president who may still have future political ambitions, that is hardly the kind of reception she would have wanted.
