JD Vance Reveals Secrets Behind His New Figure

Vice President JD Vance is finally spilling the secret behind his noticeable weight loss — and it apparently involves a lot of protein, plenty of sauerkraut and some tough-love diet advice from Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Vance, 42, was questioned about his slimmer appearance during a White House press briefing on Thursday, September 3, after Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy remarked that the vice president had lost “a ton of weight.”

Vance immediately poked fun at himself.

“When you’re the vice president of the United States and one of the first questions at a press conference in the White House is how much weight you’ve lost, you must have gotten very fat,” he joked.

But Vance then revealed there was a real story behind the transformation.

The vice president said his weight-loss journey began around Lent when he considered giving up sugar as part of the Christian season of self-denial. He turned to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for advice — and Kennedy apparently had something far more aggressive in mind.

Vance recalled telling Kennedy he was thinking about cutting sugar from his diet.

Kennedy’s response, according to Vance, was essentially that he had a much more intense plan.

The result was a diet heavy on high-protein foods and sauerkraut.

“I eat a lot of high-protein stuff, and I eat a lot of sauerkraut,” Vance explained before joking that after Fat Tuesday, “Fat Wednesday never came.”

Vance then offered reporters a warning about taking diet advice from Kennedy.

“If you want to lose weight, call Bobby Kennedy,” he joked. “And if you want to enjoy what you eat, do not call Bobby Kennedy.”

The vice president also said he had considered giving up social media for Lent, explaining that he could have his staff post on his behalf while he stayed away from the platforms himself.

Vance’s physical transformation is now attracting attention for another reason — growing speculation about his political future.

During Friday’s Fox & Friends, co-host Brian Kilmeade openly suggested Vance’s weight loss could be connected to a potential White House campaign.

“The bottom line is J.D.’s losing weight because he’s gonna run for president — just like everyone else,” Kilmeade said, offering his own interpretation of the vice president’s makeover.

Vance has not announced a 2028 presidential campaign.

In a June interview with CBS Sunday Morning, he said he and his wife, Usha Vance, plan to discuss what comes next for their family after the 2026 midterm elections.

“Usha and I will absolutely sit down and talk about what comes next for our family,” Vance said, adding that he tries not to make major decisions until he has to.

Vance also said he believes President Donald Trump would be supportive of whatever decision he ultimately makes.

For now, Vance is keeping his political plans under wraps — but his dramatically slimmer appearance is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

And according to the vice president himself, anyone hoping to copy the transformation may want to develop a serious appetite for sauerkraut.
