Terrified Bullfighting Fans Flee as Half-Ton Bull Leaps Over Barrier (Video)

Terrified spectators scrambled for safety after a massive bull suddenly cleared a barrier during a bullfighting event in Spain, coming frighteningly close to people seated near the front of the arena.

The heart-stopping scene unfolded Sunday, Sept. 20, during the final event of the 2026 Feria Taurina at the Plaza de Toros de Murcia in Murcia, Spain.

Video from the arena shows the bull, named Malacara, charging across the ring before launching itself over the wooden barrier surrounding the fighting area.

People standing in the narrow passageway on the other side quickly scattered as the animal came crashing through.

Fortunately, another barrier separated the bull from spectators in the stands, and no injuries were reported.

Footage of the frightening moment was shared on X by EMERGENCIAS MURCIA and quickly spread across social media.

The first jump apparently wasn’t enough.

According to the Plaza de Toros de Murcia’s official account of the event, Malacara jumped into the arena’s exit passageway twice during the performance.

The bullring’s official records identify Malacara as the sixth and final bull of the day, belonging to the Los Espartales ranch.

He weighed 508 kilograms, or roughly 1,120 pounds, and was born in February 2022. That makes some early reports describing the animal as six years old or weighing more than a ton inaccurate.

The event was a corrida de rejones, a form of bullfighting in which the bullfighter performs on horseback rather than primarily on foot.

Malacara had been assigned to Portuguese rider Duarte Fernandes. The Sept. 20 event also featured Andy Cartagena and Diego Ventura and served as the sixth and final bullfighting event of Murcia’s 2026 fair.

Although several reports described Malacara as jumping “into the crowd,” local reporting and the bullring’s own account show that the animal actually entered the callejón — the narrow service corridor separating the ring from the spectator seating.

That distinction may have prevented a much more serious outcome.

Video shows people in the passage moving rapidly out of the bull’s path, while spectators just beyond the additional barrier watch the animal pass only feet away.

Spanish outlet 20minutos reported that Malacara first jumped into the corridor shortly after entering the ring and later cleared the barrier a second time near one of the protected openings used by bullfighting personnel. No injuries were reported from either incident.

The show continued after the animal was returned to the arena.

Murcia’s official fair schedule confirms that Sunday’s event closed the city’s 2026 bullfighting program and featured bulls from the Los Espartales ranch.

The Plaza de Toros de Murcia is one of the city’s historic venues and dates to 1887.

Bullfighting remains an established tradition in parts of Spain, but it also remains deeply controversial, with animal-welfare advocates condemning the treatment and killing of bulls while supporters defend the events as part of the country’s cultural heritage.

Whatever side of that debate spectators were on Sunday, Malacara’s unexpected leap briefly turned the attention away from the bullfighters — and toward the people desperately trying to stay out of his way.
