A disturbing video allegedly filmed inside a Wendy’s restaurant in Kentucky is turning stomachs online after appearing to show a worker bending over a sink and rinsing her hair under running water.
The footage, said to have been recorded at the Wendy’s in Mayfield, Kentucky, quickly spread across Facebook as viewers demanded answers about what was happening behind the counter.
“Shut Wendy’s down now,” one horrified commenter wrote as the images circulated.
But while the video clearly appears to show a woman with her head beneath a faucet inside the restaurant, several of the more explosive claims surrounding the incident have not been independently confirmed.
Social-media users have claimed the woman was a manager, that she was washing hair dye from her head and that the sink was normally used for food preparation.
So far, there has been no public confirmation establishing those details.
The controversy apparently began when Facebook user Shadow Fleming posted a photograph showing the woman leaning over the sink with her hair underneath the faucet.
“Mayfield Wendy’s y’all nasty!!” Fleming wrote.
Fleming initially accused the worker of washing her hair inside the restaurant before later claiming the woman had actually been dyeing it.
The Facebook user also alleged the employee was a manager and argued that someone in a supervisory position “should KNOW BETTER.”
Those claims have not been confirmed by Wendy’s or local health officials.
Video Raises More Questions
Another Facebook user, Nathan Toon, later posted video that appears to show the same woman rinsing her hair as water runs from the faucet.
Toon claimed the fixture was a food-preparation sink and said the layout surrounding it helped identify where the footage had been taken.
However, the short clip provides little context about what happened immediately before the recording began.
It does not show whether hair dye was involved, whether something had accidentally spilled into the woman’s hair or why she was using the sink.
Some commenters suggested there could have been an emergency explanation, such as grease, cleaning solution or another substance getting onto her head.
Fleming rejected that theory and continued to maintain that hair dye was involved.
No independent evidence released publicly so far establishes which explanation is correct.
That distinction matters because the most serious accusations being made online go well beyond what can actually be seen in the footage.
What the video appears to establish is that a woman was rinsing her hair in a sink located inside the restaurant.
Whether that sink was routinely used for preparing food, whether the employee was a manager and why her hair was under the faucet remain unanswered questions.
Kentucky Has Rules Designed to Prevent Food Contamination
Kentucky restaurants operate under the state’s retail food code, which is based on the FDA Food Code and contains requirements intended to prevent employees, equipment and food-preparation areas from becoming sources of contamination.
Food workers are expected to maintain personal cleanliness and properly restrain their hair when working around exposed food, clean equipment and utensils.
Restaurant sinks also have specific intended uses depending on how they are designated and installed.
That means the exact purpose of the sink seen in the Wendy’s footage could become important if local inspectors investigate the incident.
Kentucky’s restaurant inspection program is carried out through local health departments, with the Mayfield restaurant falling within Graves County.
As of the latest publicly available information reviewed for this story, local health officials had not publicly announced an inspection, citation or enforcement action specifically connected to the viral video.
Wendy’s also maintains its own food-safety program.
The company says restaurant employees and managers receive food-safety training and that company-operated and franchised locations are evaluated for compliance with sanitation, food-safety and operational requirements.
Wendy’s has also partnered with outside food-safety specialists to conduct assessments intended to reinforce proper practices inside its restaurants.
Second Photo Adds to Online Backlash
The hair-rinsing footage wasn’t the only image fueling questions about the Mayfield restaurant.
As Fleming’s original post gained attention, another Facebook user, Zo Sherrill, posted a separate photograph and claimed it also came from the Mayfield Wendy’s.
“Somebody guess what this is from Mayfields Wendy’s,” Sherrill wrote.
The photograph showed an unidentified substance inside what appeared to be restaurant equipment.
Some commenters speculated that it could be old Frosty mixture left inside a machine.
That has not been independently verified.
There is currently no publicly confirmed evidence establishing exactly what the substance was, when the photograph was taken or whether the equipment was being used at the time.
Still, screenshots from the second post quickly appeared in discussions about the hair video, leading some users to question the restaurant’s overall cleanliness.
Those concerns remain allegations unless they are supported by an inspection or official finding.
What Happens Next
The Wendy’s listed in Mayfield is located at 819 Paris Road.
The biggest unanswered question now is whether Graves County health officials will investigate the footage or whether Wendy’s will release additional information explaining what happened.
An official inspection could determine what type of sink appears in the video, whether it was used for food preparation and whether sanitation procedures were followed afterward.
Until then, some of the most dramatic claims spreading online should be treated cautiously.
The video has certainly created a public-relations headache for the restaurant.
But what happened before the camera started rolling — and whether any food-safety rule was actually violated — has yet to be established publicly.
