Elderly Man ‘Tortured with Hot Syrup’ in Twisted Robbery Plot

An 81-year-old Delaware man was allegedly lured into a horrifying trap at a Maryland home, where he was tied to a chair, beaten and burned with hot syrup as his attacker tried to force him to reveal the combination to a safe, authorities said.

The disturbing ordeal unfolded Wednesday, November 4, at a home in Elkton, Maryland. Cecil County sheriff’s deputies responded around 8:30 a.m. after receiving reports of an injured, unclothed elderly man outside a residence on Chestnut Drive.

The victim had reportedly gone to the home to meet 31-year-old Taylor Storm Falcone, apparently unaware of the nightmare awaiting him. A neighbor who later helped the man told FOX45 News that the victim said he had gone there to give Falcone money for her child’s birthday.

According to investigators, Falcone invited the man inside, where he encountered 28-year-old Austin Michael Maniscalco. The situation allegedly turned violent when Maniscalco became aggressive, restrained the elderly man with a cord and repeatedly punched him while threatening him with a knife.

But authorities say the assault took an even more disturbing turn when Maniscalco heated syrup in a microwave and poured it over the restrained victim, causing multiple burns.

Investigators believe the alleged torture was intended to force the man to surrender the combination to a safe at his Delaware home. After obtaining the numbers, Maniscalco allegedly wrote them across the victim’s forehead with a black marker and made additional threatening markings on his chest.

The suspect also allegedly stole approximately $80, gold jewelry, a Seiko watch and keys to several vehicles, including a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette, a 2026 GMC Sierra and a 2016 Cadillac Escalade.

In an extraordinary twist, the victim finally got his chance to escape when Maniscalco reportedly fell asleep. Despite his injuries, the elderly man managed to untie himself, flee the house and seek help from a neighbor, who provided a blanket and called 911.

Deputies subsequently surrounded the home, but Maniscalco allegedly refused repeated commands to surrender. A specialized sheriff’s response team brought in an armored vehicle and began forcing entry before he finally gave himself up.

Investigators recovered the victim’s stolen belongings, along with the chair and cord allegedly used to restrain him. Police also checked his Delaware residence and found no indication that anyone had entered.

Authorities believe Falcone and Maniscalco conspired to lure the victim to the property, rob him and gain access to his home and safe. Although investigators say Falcone left during the assault, she was arrested after returning to the residence.

Maniscalco faces multiple charges, including robbery, first-degree assault, theft and false imprisonment. Falcone faces several conspiracy charges related to the alleged robbery and assault.

Both were initially held without bail, but court records reviewed by FOX45 show Falcone was released Thursday after posting a $500 cash bond on $5,000 bail.

The victim was treated at a Delaware hospital and released the same day. Authorities said his injuries were consistent with his account of the attack.

Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
