Disney Faces Backlash for Exploiting Guests During Hurricane Milton

Disney is under fire for selling $10 peanut butter-and-jelly sandwich kits to guests stranded at one of its Orlando resorts during the severe Hurricane Milton, which made landfall last night and has already claimed at least nine lives.

A viral TikTok video shared by a guest trapped within Disney World showcased the sandwich kits, which include jars of peanut butter and jelly, a loaf of bread, and plastic utensils. While some viewers praised the offering as thoughtful, many criticized the steep price tag.

“I was thinking how sweet!” commented one user. “Then saw they were charging $10.” Another remarked, “It should be free.”

The video also revealed that Disney was offering a 25% discount on Disney-themed board games, likely intended to help guests pass the time as over 3.4 million Floridians faced power outages.

The TikTok account, managed by a self-identified Disney enthusiast, shared clips of strong winds and heavy rain affecting the resort while cast members continued to entertain guests indoors. The woman, who calls herself “Disney Mama,” was at the park with her partner and one-year-old child.

She captioned one video, “I love staying at Disney’s Moderate Resorts, but in situations like this, the sense of security while staying in a Deluxe Resort would be more settling.”

Ahead of the storm, both Disney World and Universal Studios closed on Wednesday, assuring guests that food was available for those remaining in the park.

Officials had urged residents in the storm’s path to evacuate, warning of life-threatening conditions as they worked to clear debris from the area, still recovering from Hurricane Helene just days prior.

“This is the real deal here with Milton,” said Tampa Bay Mayor Jane Castor. “If you want to take on Mother Nature, she wins 100 percent of the time.”

The storm has already generated several bizarre stories, including one about a man, dubbed “Lieutenant Dan,” who went viral for refusing to evacuate his boat, later claiming the storm wasn’t as bad as anticipated. Another viral TikTok featured a wealthy mother flaunting her “Milton-proof” concrete mansion, defying evacuation orders while riding out the storm in luxury.
