FEMA Sued For Not Helping Trump Supporters

In a bombshell lawsuit, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is accusing the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of discriminating against supporters of President-elect Donald Trump during hurricane relief efforts. The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, alleges that FEMA deliberately bypassed homes displaying pro-Trump signs or flags in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.

The allegations stem from whistleblower reports revealed by The Daily Wire. Relief workers were allegedly directed by FEMA supervisor Marn’i Washington to avoid homes in Lake Placid, Florida, that exhibited support for Trump. The lawsuit claims this directive was part of a broader conspiracy involving FEMA Director Deanne Criswell and others to violate the civil rights of Florida citizens.

“While the facts will continue to come out over the weeks and months, it is already clear that Defendant Washington conspired with senior FEMA officials, as well as those carrying out her orders, to violate the civil rights of Florida citizens,” the lawsuit states.

Explosive Claims of Political Bias

According to the suit, Washington told The Daily Wire that bypassing Trump-supporting homes was standard FEMA practice in “politically hostile” areas. She also claimed similar policies were enforced in North Carolina and other states hit by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

FEMA Director Criswell has denied these allegations, labeling the Lake Placid incident an “isolated event” not reflective of agency policy. However, Washington has doubled down, accusing FEMA leadership of covering up discriminatory practices.

“Defendant Washington says that similar conduct occurred in North Carolina and throughout areas affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton,” the suit states. “And she represents that senior FEMA officials claiming not to know that the agency was discriminating against Trump supporters are promoting a ‘lie.’”

Swift Action from Florida Leaders

In a statement, Attorney General Moody vowed to hold FEMA accountable and ensure that hurricane victims receive equitable treatment regardless of political affiliation.

“Hurricane season is not over, and the federal agency in charge of emergency response is embroiled in scandal – caught withholding aid from storm victims in Florida who support President Trump,” Moody said. “I am taking swift legal action to find out how far this political discrimination reaches and to make sure all Americans who fall victim to devastating storms are served, regardless of their political affiliation.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has thrown his weight behind the lawsuit, calling the allegations “unacceptable.”

“It’s egregious for the federal government to discriminate against Floridians who voted for Trump, especially in the aftermath of a hurricane,” DeSantis said. “I’ve directed state agencies to investigate this fully and hold those responsible accountable.”

The state’s Division of Emergency Management has also launched its own investigation into the claims.

The lawsuit seeks damages for affected Floridians and a court declaration that FEMA violated their civil rights. FEMA has declined to comment on the ongoing litigation but pointed to Criswell’s statement condemning the alleged guidance to skip Trump-supporting homes.
