He was first taken to Moruya Hospital for preliminary scans before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital. There, he underwent the first of two urgent eye surgeries. “A day later, I was transferred to the Sydney Eye Hospital to undergo another surgery,” Guan wrote.

In the weeks that followed, Guan remained in intensive care, where the grueling reality of his injury set in. For two weeks, even simple tasks like sleeping or eating were a painful ordeal. “The frustration is unbearable. Why did this happen? How in the world am I supposed to recover…?” Guan questioned in a moment of raw vulnerability.

Doctors have advised Guan that recovery will take between six months to a year, but the prognosis for his sight is grim. Regaining vision in his left eye, they warn, is highly unlikely.

Despite this life-changing event, Guan is remarkably resolved, expressing gratitude for his family, friends, and fans who have rallied around him. He remains resolute in his ambition to return to the green. “As a kid, I have always had a lot of perseverance and persistence. I will continue to work hard and do my best to achieve my dream,” Guan wrote. “I will be back.”
