Kai Trump Says Doctor was ‘Shocked’ by Health Issues

Kai Trump is opening up about a rough start to college life after battling multiple illnesses — and admitting she recently went days without eating.

President Donald Trump’s granddaughter revealed in a new YouTube vlog that she was hit with strep throat and a sinus infection at the same time, a combination she said even surprised her doctor.

“I’ve been living alone, kind of crazy,” Kai said. “I’ve had six qualifiers. I ended up getting strep throat last week. On top of strep, I had a sinus infection, so I got two at once, never had happened to me before.”

“The doctor was even shocked that that happened,” she added. “So I’ve been going through it.”

Kai, a freshman golfer at the University of Miami, said her health problems apparently didn’t end there.

“Last night I think I had food poisoning because I ate sushi and I threw up, so I don’t know,” she said. “Not fun.”

Despite the rocky stretch, Kai said she is enjoying college and likes being relatively close to her family home in Jupiter, Florida.

“Love University of Miami,” she said. “It’s a great college; I like that it’s close to home.”

Kai explained that many of her golf trainers and coaches are still based near Jupiter, making it easy for her to head home when she gets a free day.

The University of Miami lists Trump as a freshman on its women’s golf roster for the 2026-27 season.

Her latest health update comes after Kai previously revealed another troubling part of adjusting to life on her own — she had apparently gone about three days without eating.

In an earlier vlog, Kai showed viewers an almost empty refrigerator containing little more than diet root beer, pickles and condiments.

Her friend Emma eventually arrived with bags of groceries to help stock the fridge and freezer.

“Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven’t eaten in like three days,” Kai said. “So, Emma got me food.”

Emma joked that Kai had essentially been surviving on diet soda.

“I could only bring as much as I could carry,” she said, explaining that she brought Kai fruit, prosciutto, pasta, bread and other basic foods.

Kai is living on her own after moving away from her mother, Vanessa Trump, and the family home in Jupiter.

College life, however, apparently hasn’t turned into one big Miami party.

Kai said her days begin around 5 a.m. and she tries to be asleep by about 9 p.m., with golf and school taking up most of her schedule.

“I feel like I haven’t really explored Miami yet because I’m so busy with the golf and stuff like that,” she said.

“But I’m here for golf. I’m not here to party in Miami, so I guess it’s okay.”

Recent reports have also documented Kai’s heavy focus on golf as she begins her freshman season at Miami.

Still, Kai’s attempt to show fans her everyday college life has drawn criticism online.

She recently gave followers a tour of her two-bedroom, two-bathroom Miami apartment, complete with a sleek kitchen, modern living space and faux fireplace.

Kai called the kitchen her “favorite part” of the apartment because she likes to “eat a lot,” an ironic comment considering her recent admission that she had gone days without food.

Some social media users accused the president’s granddaughter of being “out of touch” for showing off the upscale apartment instead of living in traditional freshman dorm housing.

Kai herself acknowledged how fortunate she was to have the apartment, according to recent coverage of the tour.

For now, Kai appears focused on getting healthy, keeping up with school and continuing her college golf career — even if her first weeks away from home have been far more chaotic than she expected.
